If you’re traveling to Copenhagen with children, you’ll want to know the best places to eat, visit and sleep. LA-based photographer and friend of Kid & Coe, Nicki Sebastian, gave us her top picks for things to do in Copenhagen with kids.
Where to Eat
Hart Bageri
Arguably the best pastry shop in the city—don’t miss out on the cardamom croissant and black sesame cookie!
La Banchina
A dockside walk-in restaurant and wine bar that offers anything but your average dining experience! Order from their menu of the freshest organic fare and then find a spot to dip your toes (or whole body) in the cold-yet-invigorating water. They also offer an onsite sauna in case a frigid plunge isn’t your cup of tea!
What to Do
Skovalfen & Solspejlet
The sweetest toy store in town with giftable goodies and heirloom quality playthings—including a huge selection of whimsical miniatures from our girls’ favorite Danish brand, Maileg!
Tivoli Gardens
Our girls’ favorite day in Copenhagen was spent at Tivoli Gardens, the world’s 2nd oldest amusement park that inspired Walt Disney to create Disney World! Our favorite rides were the old wooden coaster and the Flying Trunk (the Danish version of It’s a Small World)—and the grounds themselves rival even the most lush botanical gardens with its perfectly manicured greenery and blooms galore!
What to See
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
An easy day trip on the train (about 40 min with a gorgeous neighborhood walk from the station), and a must-see for both the modern and contemporary art exhibitions and the stunning grounds by the sea. Apart from the incredible exhibitions, the children’s activity area kept our kiddos busy for well over an hour, and we spent the rest of the afternoon basking in the sun on the idyllic rolling hills.
Torvehallerne Market
Stop by this food hall and market for everything from seafood to ice cream to a delicious breakfast at Grød (we went three mornings in a row). Their All-In porridge bowl is heavenly—and the market itself is a fun scene for people watching and a quintessential Copenhagen gastro experience!
Tips for Parents
Our dear friend gifted each of our girls a blank hard-bound notebook before our overseas adventure, and we brought these everywhere (restaurants, museums, parks, you name it) so they could draw when inspired by their surroundings (or when bored while waiting for meals or rides). By the end of the trip, we came home with a visual journal of sorts that we’ll keep forever—which doubled as the perfect form of entertainment during downtime.
