Perks for the Parents

This sunny log cabin, 12 miles from Asheville, is a great location for an outdoor vacation with the kids, complete with a woodstove fire for cozy nights, and 38 acres of land to explore. Located on the south slope of Burney Mountain in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, the chalet is a spacious, sunny log cabin with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, surrounded by hardwood forest. Wild turkeys rustle the fallen leaves in winter and lead their young in spring. An abundance of birds and other wildlife can be spotted from the sunny porches. The natural oasis is walking distance to the local pizza place, and the closest large grocery store is less than 4 miles away. Parents will enjoy the separate master suite with jetted tub and access to a covered porch for a private morning coffee.

Why Kids Love it

Children of all ages enjoy staying at the chalet - it is a real log cabin in the woods with opportunities for outdoor exploration, campfires and games in front of the woodstove fire. Kids will love the bunk room or sleeping loft, both with full bathrooms. Toys, books and games are provided in the bunkroom as well as black-out curtains for naptime. A pack’n’play, high chair, booster seat, baby phone, outlet covers, stair gates, children's cutlery and plates, and kids movies are available.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights November-May, 3 nights June-October. The home is on 38 wooded acres. Children must be supervised when roaming the property - there is wildlife and some steep drop offs. There is a gate on the stairs leading down from the deck to prevent children (and pets) from going down to the yard. Internal stairs can be gated on request. The hosts welcome events, groups, gatherings of family and friends as well as your pets (welcome for a $40 fee, on application).

After living or owning properties in Germany, the Philippines, Hawaii, Manhattan, Croton-on-Hudson, and Raleigh, we chose the Asheville area to raise our three children. We love the cultural and natural richness of this place. The mountains, forests, ecological diversity, waterfalls and the local food movement, farms and markets, outstanding restaurants, cultural events and interesting, friendly people make this a great place to live and visit. We decided to build the Chalet and the Cottage at Winghaven so we can welcome people to this amazing area that we enjoy so very much. We live just about ten minutes away from Winghaven, on a small farm with dairy goats, rare breed chickens, ducks, geese and dogs. Please visit us on the web at blue-house-farm.com. Of course we would also be delighted to have you come in person and visit with the animals during your stay at Winghaven! Naturally, we will always have fresh eggs from our happy hens as well as handmade goat's milk soap for you at Winghaven.

We had a wonderful stay at the chalet at Windhaven! It was the perfect retreat which still allowed us to explore the surrounding area. Saskia was incredibly responsive, and we loved visiting her farm!

The Chalet was absolutely perfect for our stay with our small children and black lab. The house was very clean and had everything we needed: toys, high chair, baby gates, monitor, and more! Even our dog felt welcome with dog bowls and treats provided. All of the furnishings were kid friendly and we appreciated having 2 bathtubs, outdoor dining, and the most cozy beds we've ever slept in during a holiday. The kitchen was well stocked as well with numerous spices, oil, and baked goods and there was even a stand mixer to make cookies!

This residence was a beautiful place to stay! Secluded up in the mountains it was a great get away. The interior of the cabin was gorgeous and had plenty of space for our two kids to roam about and play. It was also nice and secluded and away from any commotion. It was an easy drive into the various neighboring cities where we could spend time. This was a great stay! The hosts were prompt communicators and the residence had everything we needed with two little ones. I'd highly recommend!

We enjoyed our stay at the Winghaven Drive Residence. We built a fire every night and roasted marshmallows. My kids loved it! There is a dollar general 5 minutes away(drive) if you need to pick up anything during your stay. The cabin had wonderful views, perfect for drinking coffee on the porch in the morning!

I was part of a group of four adults and three boys (4,7, and 7) who absolutely loved our stay. The home has everything you need plus lovely touches like fresh cut soap for each guest. It was sparking clean and we ran into zero issues across our 3 nights. We highly recommended staying here when visiting this beautiful part of North Carolina.
