Perks for the Parents

This elegant country villa exudes French rustic charm inside and out, with spacious lawned gardens featuring an outdoor pool, a play area and a pétanque pitch. It sleeps 15. Offering plenty of peace and privacy in the heart of the lovely village of Cabannes, guests are just minutes' walk from bakeries, cafes and restaurants. Stock up on local ingredients to rustle up a family feast in the chef’s grade style kitchen, or the hosts can help arrange for an in-house chef to take on the cooking part so parents can focus on relaxing. All interior spaces are airconditioned for comfort during the warmer months, and the airy open plan style living areas provide plenty of space to socialise and dine together with glass doors providing easy access to the outdoor terraces and shady alfresco dining area. For laid back days at home, there’s plenty to entertain with a bar area for the adults, a home cinema for movie screenings, and 2 living rooms to chill out in – 1 for the parents with a feature fireplace, and a separate one for the kids packed full of games to keep them occupied. Families keen to explore the local area have some of Provence’s best loved villages on the doorstep, including stylish Saint-Rémy, as well as hiking, biking and horse trekking trails to explore in the local Alpilles Regional Nature Park.

Why Kids Love it

This residence is a veritable playground for kids of all ages with plenty of toys, games and entertainment of both the high and low tech variety. The garden comes with large lawns for soccer games and basketball, an outdoor pool with an alarm to protect those still learning to swim, and there are several kids' play areas featuring a wooden play cottage, a climbing frame, slide, swing set, table tennis and a trampoline. Inside, there’s a games room with table football, a pool table, a games console and other games, and for downtime there's a cinema screen with a DVD player and library for curling up with a movie. For those with energy/curiosity to burn, the surrounding towns and villages are fantastic with playgrounds, book and toy shops, ice cream parlours and a decent offering of kid-friendly restaurants. There are plenty of local activities on offer too from horse riding, cookery classes and climbing to local biking trails into the mountains (there are bicycles available to borrow at the house). The hosts can provide 2 cribs, a highchair, a baby monitor, a bathtub, a changing table and kid-friendly dinnerware on request. They are also happy to help arrange a babysitter.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. The pool has an alarm; it is ungated however so younger kids should be supervised around it when in use. The residence is secured with an electric entrance gate. The fireplace has fire guards for additional safety. The house has air conditioning, and there is good WiFi throughout. There is a washing machine available for ease. Private on-site parking is provided, and a car is recommended to explore the area. Pets are welcome on request – please speak to the host when booking.

About the Location

The residence is situated in Cabannes, a charming Provençal village in one of France’s most sought-after regions. The village center is a 2-minute walk away and has a decent offering of traditional bakeries, cafes and food stores, as well as a weekly market, tennis and pétanque. It’s a 15-minute drive to the local supermarket. There are several other noteworthy villages a 20-minute drive away including Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (home to the archaeological site of Glanum), Eygalières and Les Baux-de-Provence – well worth a visit for its wonderful cave art and light show. A little further (30 minutes – 1 hour by car) are Arles, Nîmes and Aix-en-Provence famed for their architecture, museums, restaurants and shopping. There are a number of well-known vineyards a short drive away offering tours and tastings and the pretty south coast beaches are around 1 hour’s drive. For travel, the closest TGV station is Avignon (28 minutes by car), and the closest international airport is Marseille (45 minutes).

Accommodation Details

The residence has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms set over 2 floors. The main living areas are open plan in style and are on the ground floor offering access to the gardens via sliding glass doors. They feature an elegant formal living room with sofas, chairs, and a historic fireplace; a dining area (complete with a bar and a large dining table seating 14), and a fully stocked kitchen just beyond including an American style fridge-freezer, a coffee machine and a dishwasher. There is a second living room for the kids with table football, a snooker/pool table and a cinema screen, and a washing machine in the utility area. Upstairs there are 7 bedrooms: the primary has a kingsize bed with an ensuite bathroom; the second and third bedrooms have double beds and ensuite bathrooms. There are 2 further double bedrooms each with an ensuite bathroom and 2 bedrooms suitable for kids and teens with 2 single beds in 1 and 3 in the other. These bedrooms share 2 further bathrooms between them. Outside, the gardens are a mixture of lawned areas and outdoor patios with many shaded areas. There’s a swimming pool surrounded by a sun terrace with loungers, umbrellas, and a pool house for changing with a shaded seating space beneath an adjacent pergola. Directly outside the house is a pretty alfresco dining terrace with a table seating 14 and outdoor seating, while elsewhere in the grounds is a play area with a play cabin, a playground with climbing frames, a trampoline, table tennis and a pétanque pitch.

Style Notes

Rustic elegance. This historic former farmhouse has been beautifully renovated to maintain its original character and features including wooden beamed ceilings, pretty floor tiles, and a statement fireplace in the living room. Natural flagstones and contemporary designs have been woven in to blend seamlessly with vintage finds, instilling French farmhouse vibes throughout. Country brocante treasures sit amongst the hosts own collection of art works and objet trouvé, as well as some decadent Rococo style sculptures that add a touch of splendour. We love the bright and airy kitchen where period charm meets modern chic with a handcrafted island, a country style range cooker, shaker cabinetry, topped off with beautiful views across the gardens and alfresco terraces.

Provence is my roots, where I grew up. I love the unique light, the heat in summer, the cosy winters, the food, the people. All the properties I manage have been carefully selected and are kids friendly. I know my region inside out and I can help you plan your holidays. For your kids, many activities, cooking classes, climb tree experiences, fishing, canoeing etc.. For the family: Wine tour, Air tour above Alpilles and Luberon, cooking class or private chef at home, lavender workshops etc... or just enjoying Provence art de vivre !

Cabannes, Provence

Vineyards, markets and village life

This small village in the Alpilles, 15 minutes southeast of Avignon, offers a traditional slice of Provence: men playing boules in the town square, shopkeepers chatting at the weekly farmer’s market and views of cypress trees and vineyards as far as the eye can see. In the west of Provence it is an easy drive from Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Aix-en-Provence and Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Arles and the Camargue, for a full flavor of the region.
