This sophisticated and beautifully decorated 2-floor apartment with 2 kids’ rooms offers an authentic slice of Paris. It sleeps up to 6. The main living room is large with an open kitchen and a generous dining table for convivial family meals. With 2 floors, everyone can find their own space. Parents have a lovely master bedroom with its own terrace and ensuite downstairs, while the 2 kids’ bedrooms are upstairs with their own bathroom.

Why Kids Love it

Children will be happy to be in Paris and this residence has plenty of space to play. Kids can make noise and run around without upsetting any neighbors. They will enjoy the large children’s library and collection of games. The kids’ rooms have splashes of color and plenty of toys and there is a movie projector for evening viewings. The apartment is in a complex of 5 interconnected gated courtyards so children can play safely outside (though they should be supervised). Out and about, Le Comptoir Général (10 minutes’ walk) is a bazaar and canteen with an African theme where there are curiosity cabinets, mini flea markets, children’s workshops and great food.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. This apartment is ideal for family of four (2 adults, 2 kids). There are ungated stairs. The apartment is located in a car-free zone where children can play football outside or ride bikes. Baby essentials include cabinet locks, a baby bath and a high chair (all provided on request). There is also children’s dinnerware and a dishwasher. Please note there is no television but the hosts do have a movie projector and bluetooth amplifier that can be used with a computer. Arrangements can be made for housekeeping and a babysitter at 15€/hour and parking at 50€/day.

About the Location

This residence is located in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, in the hip neighborhood of Canal Saint-Martin. It’s a 20-minute metro ride to Notre-Dame from here but the local area has much to offer, including boho cafes, restaurants and bars on Cour des Petites Ecuries. You can take a boat ride on the 19th century waterway or check out the local Marché Couvert Saint-Martin, 1 of only 5 covered markets left in Paris. The host recommends the serene inner courtyards of the Saint-Louis Hospital, a destination not known to tourists but built at the same time as Place des Vosges. Paris-Charles De Gaulle and Orly international airports are both approximately 40 minutes away by taxi.

Accommodation Details

This 1399 sq ft duplex has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on 2 floors. On the ground floor is a large entrance hall leading to an open plan living room / kitchen with a breakfast bar and dining area seating up to 8. There is a patio with table and chairs and plants. Also on this floor is a powder room, a family bathroom with a shower and tub and, opposite, a kingsize master bedroom with sliding doors to its own private patio. Upstairs on the 1st floor are 2 more bedrooms with a 1 twin / single bed in each (they can be converted into full / double beds), and a family-size bathroom with a bath tub.

Style Notes

Cosmopolitan and chic. This duplex apartment has been recently renovated by a talented interior designer. Families who love contemporary spaces will adore the pale wood floor, natural stone walls and chic tiling. Mid-century modern inspired furniture and cool light fittings complete the look. The host is into literature (there’s a library), the husband into gluten-free baking (the kitchen is filled with gadgets and cookbooks) and the kids are into music (there’s a full-size piano). We love the exposed stone wall in the living space, the grown-up décor, and the cute outdoor spaces that are filled with greenery.

My fiancé (Nat) and I used to be traveling around the world for 1,5 years. I was a journalist, he was making videos about music. We have seen so many countries, culture, people ! We are now back in Paris, parents of 2 young children, with a much more quiet life. And sometimes, we are very happy to take a bag, let the kids with my mother, and have few days traveling together. We like to be part of the city we are visiting. Choosing to stay in an apartment is a way to live like citizen, not only like tourists. 5 things I couldn't miss ? my family of course, books (i'm working in a publishing company), freedom, friends and maybe good wine with a nice meal.

Canal St Martin, The 10th arrondissement

Where boho families play

Just north of Le Marais, this is the new playground of the boho generation. Young families ride around on bicycles and picnic by the canal. The metro on the revamped Place de la Republique nearby will take you anywhere in no time, making this a great family holiday spot. You’ll feel like a true Parisian.

We had a lovely experience in this Paris apartment. It was wonderful to be in a neighborhood that was full with cafes and restaurants, and with easy access to multiple Metro lines. The apartment is inside a large apartment complex that has a courtyard. It's very safe and secure. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed to be comfortable, including a well-stocked kitchen. The owners were lovely and responded to any questions immediately. This is Paris, so there is no air conditioning and there are no fans. If you are staying in the summer, be prepared to have the doors and windows open all the time.

What an amazing place and Gaëlle is such a lovely, kind host! We had such a great time there, lots of space, the design is so beautiful and comfortable, in a convenient location. Gaëlle had lots of recommendations for places to eat and explore, and everyone in our family (the kids, adults and grandparents) loved the place. Even during some hot summer days the apartment was nice and cool. Thank you Gaëlle and Nathaniel!

We absolutely loved our stay at Rue Saint Maur, it was the perfect base for our family stay in Paris. The home itself is absolutely incredible, filled with light, books, art and everything you need to have a comfortable stay with a family. It was safe, secure and so quiet - a real sanctuary in the heart of Paris. Our older children loved the two upstairs bedrooms with ensuite, and our baby loved the dark of the master bedroom with its black out shutter. We loved the chic design, cooks kitchen and gorgeous light filled interiors. Gaëlle and Nathaniel were so welcoming, and made us feel right at home. The location in the 10th is perfect, with supermarkets, bakeries, pâtissiers, gourmet food stores and ample transport at your doorstep. Thanks again for a great stay!
