Perks for the Parents
This fantastic lodge is set on Sand Pond, in the Western Catskills, and is surrounded by nature at every turn. Nestled in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, this lake house offers a laid-back, rustic and modern vibe and with a private wooded 8 acre estate behind it, plenty of space to relax and recharge. It is desirable for artists, outdoor enthusiasts, architects and anyone in-between. Year round activities are available. Luxury treats include Savon de Marseille soap, Milk shampoo and body conditioner, luxury linens and a fully equipped kitchen.
Why Kids Love it
The cabin has lots of board games, books and toys. The basement has a games area with a ping pong table, air hockey and table soccer, as well as another couch and television, so they have plenty of space to themselves. The lake is also very kid friendly as it is so shallow from the water’s edge, and kids can play on their own (under visual supervision of course) without parents worrying about the depth. Kids can fish for minnows, catch frogs or otherwise play in a stream nearby; there is plenty of fun to be had in the woods around the house.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 2 nights winter/spring/fall on non holiday weekends. 3 nights at other times. There are a handful of minor child safety issues: there are open stairways and railed balconies inside and the property is not entirely fenced in. There is open access to the lake and a stream. There is a steep hill behind the house, leading to the back yard and an open fire pit. The driveway can fit between 2-4 cars only, all others must be parked in town. There are no motor sports allowed on this lake, so the water is always calm and safe for swimmers. Check in: 4pm, check out: 1pm. Extra people: $45 / night after 5 guests.
About the Location
The residence is in the Western Catskill valley, a 2-hour drive from NYC/NJ, nestled between 2 picturesque Catskill towns, Livingston Manor and Roscoe. It is a 15 minute drive to either. From the house, a 15 minute walk down the local dirt road takes you to a great family friendly restaurant and bar. Dutchess County Airport is 1 hour 15 minutes away. Car hire recommended.
Accommodation Details
This 5-bedroom house sleeps up to 14 people. There are 3 bedrooms with double beds and 2 bedrooms with 4 bunkbeds each. The house is 3 levels, with an open-plan center floor with kitchen and lounge, and an upstairs loft. The bedrooms and bathrooms are situated between the center and top floors. The loft area upstairs has a crib, a pack'n'play and a toddler activity seat. The basement has a ping pong table, air hockey and table soccer, as well as another lounge.
Style Notes
The cabin is newly built (2007) but styled in the Adirondack rustic log home design. The natural wood finish wraps floor to ceiling throughout much of the home, and feels cozy and welcoming. The bedding, bath products and towels are all new and of high standard.

Catskills, Hudson Valley
The woods are lovely…
It’s no surprise that artists, musicians and writers have fallen for the Catskills. Around two hours north of New York City, this refuge from urban life is all mountains, deep forests and pretty historical towns, and is the ideal place to introduce your kids to the great outdoors. Start them young at organic farms with tractor rides, corn mazes and fruit to pick, then graduate on to forest walks, tubing, spotting bald eagles from mountain railroads and petting goats in animal sanctuaries. Skiing on Hunter Mountain, horseback riding and splashing at Zoom Flume water park are just a few of the area’s top attractions for families.
