Perks for the Parents

A stunning post-and-beam lodge in the heart of Hudson Valley farm country, with a spectacular pond, forest surroundings and Catskill Mountain views. It sleeps 9. This is a perfect countryside retreat for parents, who will love escaping to this rural part of New York for weekend getaways or longer vacations. The house has a wonderfully flexible layout to suit 2 or 3 families with young children, while multi-generational trips will feel equally at home here. Spend your days lounging round the pool and hiking in the woods before you relax with a glass of wine, watching the sun set over the Catskills or around the fire in the luxuriously large living room.

Why Kids Love it

The layout is ideal for kids, with 3 bedrooms and a full bathroom downstairs together with a games room and large screen TV - so children can have fun or watch movies with some independence away from the main living areas (and parents upstairs). There’s loads for kids to do, from the full-sized professional-grade ping pong table, sledding hill in winter, badminton, trampoline or bocce court outside. They’ll love swimming in the 45-foot in-ground heated pool or playing games out on the deck. On cool cozy nights, gather round the fieldstone fire pit to make s’mores and gaze up to spot stars in the clear skies.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. Maximum stay: 2 weeks. Safety notes: the house is well suited to children of all ages, with stair gates, railed decks, a fenced pool with child alarms and the option to install outlet covers if needed. Sorry - no pets, no smoking, no non-family groups, no events. This is the host family’s home and they hope guests will enjoy it while giving it the same loving care as the owners. Bikes are available for guests to borrow during their stay and include 1 adult e-bike, 3 adult mountain bikes, 1 adult cruiser, and 1 mid-sized child’s mountain bike.

About the Location

The house is located in Ghent, a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley, New York. It’s just 2 hours 15 minutes from New York City, but a world away from the urban environment. The property is surrounded by active farms, excellent biking and running roads, ART OMI sculpture park, a growing roster of nationally-noted restaurants and nature conservancies. The village of Ghent is under 10 minutes’ drive; Chatham is 12 minutes’ drive. The bustle of Hudson town is just 9 miles away, where there are lots more eateries, parks and a train station. The closest airports are in New York City and Albany, NY.

Style Notes

Contemporary farmhouse. This traditional post-and-beam property feels cozy yet minimalist, flooded with natural light to connect with the natural scenes that pour in from every window and skylight. There is plenty of exposed wood, stone countertops and natural materials to create a calm and relaxing space, as well as architectural features and nooks to explore! We love the classic stone fireplace in the living area, the beautiful landscaped gardens and the ultra-modern feel of the poolside area.

My husband, 3 children and I are passionate about traveling to places that allow us to blend our love of food, drink, nature and culture. We joined Kid & Coe to be part of a community of likeminded families offering the chance to stay in exceptional properties at home and abroad. We look forward to welcoming you to our treasured Hudson Valley post-and-beam home. We love the sense of tranquility and harmony with nature we experience there, proximity to farms and forests, culture and dining, as well the sense of retreat from the wider world it affords.

Chatham, Hudson Valley

Culture and countryside adventures

In the beautiful setting of Columbia County, Chatham is a pretty town with plenty to keep a family occupied for a week or more. Take to the trees at Catamount Ski Area for aerial adventures - or skiing in season; visit local farms and meet the animals; hike or cycle local routes or take in some culture in the many and varied performance spaces and theaters of the town. There’s an annual county fair too, plenty of distilleries, wineries and breweries to visit, and state parks to explore a short drive away.
