Perks for the Parents
This magical waterfront property located right on Copake Lake in the Hudson Valley offers outstanding views of the lake and mountains from two beautifully renovated dwellings; a cottage and a guest house. The property sleeps 8 + 2 babies. It is the perfect spot to escape everyday life and kick back in nature, taking in the serene surroundings from the hammock, decks or dock situated with spectacular views of the water, or take advantage of the lakeside waters sports with the 3 kayaks, 3 paddleboards and a canoe provided. There are gas and charcoal Weber grills as well as a smoker for low and slow bbq for evening cookouts and a fire pit for storytelling and s’more-making. Travel with extended family or friends and take advantage of the two structures on the property – a main house with two bedrooms and a one bedroom guest house built into the lakefront bluff, creating a treehouse-like quality.
Why Kids Love it
The house conjures summer camp vibes with a fun built-in bunk bed room for the kids, 25+ board games, Legos, blocks, trucks, crayons, balls and accessories to turn the dining table into a place to play ping pong. Outside, there’s no shortage of kid-friendly activities year-round on or near Copake Lake. In the spring and summer there’s swimming, kayaking, canoeing and fishing in the clear freshwater lake. The hosts have recently installed a 14' slide that's built into the hillside between the entry to the property and the main cottage. Pontoon boats, water skiing and wake boarding can also be arranged. In Autumn kids can jump around in the colorful foliage, hike at Bish Bash Falls or bike along the Harlem Valley River Trail. In the winter, ice skating, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice-fishing are all possible on Copake Lake when weather and conditions permit. Skiing, snowboarding, and tubing are 15 to 30 minutes away at nearby Catamount Ski Area or Ski Butternut.

About the Location
This cabin is right on the water at Copake Lake, in the Hudson Valley region of New York, about 2.5 hours driving from NYC. Copake Lake is a popular destination known for its pristine water, monitored by a local conservation society, and open for fishing and many recreational sports. Nearby, a little grocery store and prepared foods lunch spot is a 3 minute drive from the house and a larger supermarket 10 minutes away. There is also a bar and restaurant a short drive or 20 minute walk away. Farm stands abound in the summer and a farmer's market is about 10-12 minutes away. The house is also midway between Hudson to the west and Great Barrington to the east – both are a 25-minute drive. Hudson, on the eponymous river, has antique shops, restaurants and bars. Great Barrington, just over the Massachusetts border, is great for families with a movie theater, toy stores, and one of the largest candy stores around. Fine and casual dining is possible in both towns and along the roads between. Stewart, Bradley and Albany Airports are all under an hour away. JFK, La Guardia and Newark are all approximately 2.5-3 hours away.
Accommodation Details
This vacation home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms split into two dwellings – a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom main house and a guest house with 1 bedroom and a bathroom. The main house features a kitchen and dining area that open onto a living room facing the lake. The living room has a cozy wood-burning stove and three set of French doors that can be opened onto a large wood deck with wrap around seating for views of the lake. There is a queen size bedroom with a private bathroom with a shower and a kids’ room with 2 pairs of built-in bunkbeds, which are big enough for adults, with proper twin-size mattresses, sleeping up to 4 people. A second bathroom with an antique clawfoot tub and hand shower is off of the living room and there is a loft space above with views to the lake. Two travel cribs can be set up upon request in the house. The guest cottage has a king size bedroom and a bathroom with shower. Outside are the deck, garden and lawn, a side yard with slate hearth and smoker, lounge chairs, charcoal and gas grills, and a long dock with two waterfront seating areas on either side.
Style Notes
This 1950’s lake house retreat is filled with cozy charm and has been lovingly renovated by the owners of a well-known Brooklyn restaurant. It keeps the best of its rustic past and combines it with contemporary design and quirky touches. The original 12 pane wood-cased windows remain for optimal views of the scenery while the surrounding walls and beams have been painted in a modern palette of soothing colors, creating an open and airy feeling. Sheepskin throws add warmth to a mid-century modern sofa and small details like vintage moose antlers, an Eames table and leather lounge chairs create atmosphere that is both homey and smartly designed. We love the former library ladder cut in half to reach the top bunks and the antler chandelier in the guesthouse, and of course the unbeatable views of the serene lake.
