Perks for the Parents
Make like a Lord or Lady at this historic remote chateau in the Dordogne, France with luxurious ensuite bedrooms, swimming pool, and a huge estate to explore. It sleeps 18 + 4. This is the perfect property to host a large family or a group of friends, whether you want to create a peaceful countryside escape or plan a great party for a special occasion. The chateau is open all year round, with different locations (indoors and outdoors) to host dinners, set up picnics, or simply relax and play. The hotel-style luxuries will ensure that busy parents get a chance to wind down: enjoy a daily turn-down service and maid services, as well as the chance to opt for a private chef, babysitting, or a whole host of unique experiences to make your stay even more easy and memorable. Relax by the open fire (hosts provide logs for the fireplace) or ask the host to arrange truffle and wine tastings, home-cinema nights, one-to-one fitness classes and more.
Why Kids Love it
The estate is completely surrounded by nature and massive fields, forests and fruit trees, so it’s perfect for kids who love an adventure and playing outdoors. During their stay they’ll see horses, cows, dogs, cats, vegetable gardens, 250 different species of roses and much more. The chateau hosts can book bikes to be delivered for the whole family so they can explore the location, or if they prefer hiking and running, there are 5000 hectares of forests surrounding the estate to discover. Local family-friendly attractions include medieval castles with historic games and cave art, and the kids will love to try out wild river swimming - there are lots of secret islands and wild places to swim in the clean and fresh Dordogne river, many within 10 minutes of the estate.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 1 week in July/August, 3 nights for the rest of the year. The pool has a safety alarm system for kids which sounds when there is any movement in the water. The alarm can be deactivated easily if adults are around. The estate has plenty of space for parking and car hire is recommended. Ask the hosts for help organizing extra activities, including: tours, yoga classes, pilates instructors, tennis lessons, bike hire, food tours and tastings etc. There will always be someone available within the chateau for guests if they need help or have any questions. There is a fantastic personal chef staying on the estate during high season, who can be contacted for meal bookings and cooking classes. The estate is also pet friendly. This property is part of a wider estate which can host up to 42 guests in total, and includes Le Pressoir Residence (sleeping 12 + 2) and a smaller barn, Le Bories, as well as 5 double glamping tents located in Le Camp d'Oro. Each property is entirely independent and has separate access. Contact the hosts about booking additional properties. Nightly rates include the daily cleaning fee. Additional cleaning service is available at 25€ per hour.
About the Location
This established estate (which is completely eco-friendly - waste free and free of single-use plastic) is located in the Perigord Noir region, behind the main valley of the Dordogne in France. Style Notes
Chateau chic. This luxury family-friendly castle has been in the Commarque family for more than 800 years. Since the 1960’s, it has been used primarily for the family and their kids, but also as a holiday home for guests, and a venue for weddings, events, and artist residences. Just last year it was relaunched after 10 years of renovation, to host cultural and artistic events. The main wing has been completely restored to a high standard and has been featured extensively in Conde Nast Traveller, Vogue America, Elle, AD and more, which celebrated its stylish renovation and unique aesthetic. The estate combines elements of luxury, style, and contemporary art together with history and an unique eco-friendly way of life, in a magical place surrounded by the untouched natural landscape of fields, fruit plants, flower gardens, and forests.

Dordogne, Southwest France
The green heart of France
The rural farming heart of France is a fantastic destination for a family getaway, amid fields of sunflowers and pretty market towns. The Dordogne river itself is good for canoeing and swimming, and there are castles and chateaux to explore, caves painted with prehistoric images and, this being France, sensational food.
