The Harpers Ferry Residence
Perks for the Parents
Escape to this treehouse-style getaway in 5 acres of woods, with a woodland playhouse for kids and beautiful contemporary interiors for adults. It sleeps 8. This vacation home is perfectly set up for 2 families with 2 kids each, or one big family, and is ideal for adventurous children who love the outdoors! The property is great for getting the kids away from screens, with a cozy firepit, an outdoor elevated playhouse and 5 acres of land to explore. Parents will love relaxing in this gorgeous contemporary kitchen and living space, where you can cook up family meals or relax with a coffee on the deck as you look out over the trees in complete peace and quiet.
Why Kids Love it
The house is stocked with toys, books and games and they’ll love sharing the woodland-inspired bunk room too. But the big draw here is the amazing outdoors: kids of all ages will love the raised kids playhouse (which is modeled on the main full-size house) and older kids or teens can even sleep out there if they want a camping-style sleepover! Get the family together for toasting s’mores on the firepit, or challenge them to ping pong, foosball or air hockey in the loft room - there’s so much entertainment to keep kids happy here. If you’re traveling with babies or toddlers, the hosts also provide all kinds of children’s gear, including a high chair, Porta-Crib, hiking carrier backpack, stroller, sound machines in all bedrooms, kids dinnerware and more.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 2 nights. Safety notes: the woodland area is safe and flat. The firepit and elevated kids playhouse are both within sight of the house and front porch. Kids are welcome to explore the property as far as you feel comfortable. There are 2 small stairs to the front porch as well as stairs to the upstairs loft mezzanine and bedrooms and stairs down to the basement. Car rental is essential. The nearest airport is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (around 2 hours away).
About the Location
The property is located just minutes away from Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, just off the Pontomac River on the border of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia (you can see "the point" where they all cross just down the road). The Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers meet at a nearby spot, and you can drive between the 3 states within 15 minutes. It’s just a 90-minute drive or 2 hour train ride from Washington DC and it's located just off the C&O Canal Towpath, which runs from Georgetown in DC all the way to just 0.8 acres of the property. It’s within easy reach of Antietam National Battlefield, charming Shepherdstown, the Appalachian trail, numerous hikes, river activities, cycling, history, breweries, wineries and more.
Accommodation Details
The house has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, set over 3 floors. The main level has an open plan living/dining area which contains the kitchen, breakfast bar and dining table, all with windows looking out to the trees. Upstairs, there are 2 main suites for parents (one kingsize, one queensize) and 1 bunk room for 4 children fitted out with reading lights, toys and books. Down in the basement you’ll find a ping pong table and all the laundry facilities.

Contemporary cabin. This custom-built home feels bright, modern and stylish yet comfortable and livable for families. The furnishings and decor have been carefully curated to blend in with the natural surroundings of Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown, with lots of wooden textures and simple white, gray and black color schemes. Kids love the woodland inspired bunk room. We love the modern black window frames, the nature-inspired green textures in the living space and the surprisingly sleek bathrooms.
