About the Location
Manoir La Croix is in the Haute Vienne department of the Limousin region, ideal for slow paced rural life. Plenty of walking and cycling routes start from the manoir, and there are golf courses, riding schools and even a circus school nearby. There's a little playground in the village and a Parc Zoo du Reynou, with over 130 species of animals, is 20 minutes away. Several traditional French restaurants and bakeries are within a few minutes’ drive plus weekly markets or supermarkets. There are beautiful lakes within 20 minutes’ drive for paddling and picnics, fairytale chateaux and medieval towns to explore, and the famous Dordogne, just 30 minutes to the south. The house is also used as a retreat for women and families - ask the host for help organizing health or fitness sessions and therapies, particularly for post-natal or menopausal women (additional fees apply).
Accommodation Details
This French country manor is set on 6 acres of land with a large field, formal garden with heated pool and terrace, barbeque and fire pit behind a small orchard, and outdoor dining and woodburning stove under the barn’s canopy. On the ground floor, a main grand salon living area with stone fireplace leads to a farmhouse dining kitchen with French doors to the terrace, and a Petit Salon has a pool table and board games. An ensuite bedroom is at ground level with a private door outside. Upstairs includes a library and children’s den. Four of the bedrooms are in the original 18th century farmhouse, 2 doubles on the 1st floor with shared bathroom, 2 on the second floor – 1 twin and 1 double room with a shared shower room. Four further bedrooms are in the adjoining wing of the house, accessed through the Grand Salon - 1 double bedroom with ensuite shower on the ground floor and 3 on 1st floor - 1 double and 1 twin room with ensuite shower rooms and an ideal children’s room with 2 double beds and adjoining shower room. The old sheep fold or ‘bergerie’ has been converted into a yoga space.
Style Notes
French farmhouse meets East London inspired-design. This ivy-covered country manor is full to the brim with authentic character from wooden beams, stone walls and attic bedrooms to formal gardens, orchards and wild acreage. Modern vintage decor is evolved and families feel right at home with the antique and upcycled furniture, vintage pieces and personal design touches. We love the subtly wallpapered walls, French country linens, mismatched antique twin beds and perfectly gorgeous countryside views and experience.
