Perks for the Parents
This central Amsterdam house is a knock-out with beautiful design quirks, a climbing wall, tons of spaces to explore, and wonderfully styled family rooms. It sleeps up to 7 + 1. There is a lovely small garden for afternoon sun or dinner outside, and a bench at the front of the house for people watching and morning sun. Hire bikes and tour the cobbled streets, pick up fresh food from the market then return home to cook it in the large kitchen, just like a local family.
Why Kids Love it
Kids will love the design-filled rooms with plenty to see and do. One children’s bedroom has a climbing wall while the other 2 have high sleeper beds (better for age 6+) accessed via steps and colorful walls. Playful design is at the heart of the home. Everything is well set up for kids with toys, books, games, a video game console and Netflix. The house is walking distance from shopping streets and public transport, with easy links to museums and galleries.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 2 nights. The residence is set over 2 floors, ground and first floor, and has ungated stairs. The high sleeper bedrooms have steep steps and no rails and are better for children aged 6 +. They are not suitable for babies or toddlers. The staircase in the house is very steep, typical of Amsterdam town houses. Bike rental is available in the neighborhood for a truly Dutch experience. Pets welcome. The owners can fill the fridge in advance and a housekeeper is available, both on request (for an extra fee).
About the Location
The residence is in the Helmersbuurt area of the city on a quiet family-friendly residential street. The area is just west of the center. One of the best bakeries in the city, 't Vlaamsch Broodhuys, is just across the road. It is close to Vondelpark and 10 minutes on the tram from Anne Frank House and the Rijksmuseum. It is 15 minutes from Schiphol airport by car; 30 minutes by train and tram and is well connected by public transportation. The closest public transport is the tram, lines 3, 12 and 1, just 2 minutes' walk away. No need to hire a car - but if you do, there is paid parking nearby.
Accommodation Details
This 2-story house includes an open living space, kitchen and dining room. There are 4 bedrooms, 1 with a queensize bed and 3 with high sleeper beds. Two of the high sleeper beds are queen size and one is single size. Note that they are not suitable for babies or toddlers. The bathroom has a separate shower and bath, and there is an additional toilet. There is a small garden at the back and a bench at the front overlooking the street.
Style Notes
Modern fairytale. This fabulous Dutch home was fully remodeled in 2016 in partnership with a TV company and has been featured in a Dutch interior magazine. Children’s bedrooms contain treats like hidden sleeping platforms and pops of color; family living spaces are warm and comfortable with cozy furnishings. We love the inspired design, the great location and the mid century modern living room.

Helmersbuurt, Amsterdam
Townhouses and juice cafés
This popular family neighborhood in western Amsterdam is a few blocks from the Vondelpark with some streets right on a canal plus cafés, restaurants and yoga studios nearby. It’s easy to walk or cycle to the center of the city along with the museum quarter, and it is a little more urban and edgy than some of the south Amsterdam districts.
