A colorful desert retreat 2 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, located in the darkest area of Monument Manor for the ultimate stargazing experience. It sleeps 6+2. Perfect for relaxed get togethers, family gatherings and those looking to get back to nature, this spacious desert pad is set amongst 7.5 acres of mountainous rugged beauty, with its own private hiking trail up to ‘star landing’ for some seriously spectacular views. A sense of fun runs through the house, with playful pops of color and an outdoor kingsize bed to cozy up on and enjoy a sunset or watch the incredible night skies above. For parents seeking more lively entertainment there’s an outdoor tiki bar, and a silent disco room with 8 headsets, a blacklight and a projector for creating a party atmosphere, without the noise. For laid-back mornings-after, there’s a built-in spa with a hot tub and a cooling ‘cow boy’ pool as well as a surrounding sun deck, perfect for some yoga or sun bathing time while the kids play.
Why Kids Love it
With acres of space and a desert national park on the doorstep, this is the perfect base for mini explorers. Nature and adventure loving kids will love the desert trails with hiking routes straight from the front door through some incredible rock formations. There are plenty of cacti and wildlife to spot including desert cottontails, snakes, Albino lizards and endangered kangaroo mice. For laid-back days in, there’s plenty to entertain at home with a dipping pool, astroturf area, a kingsize outdoor day bed for lounging, and an entertainment room with Nintendo 64 console, silent disco machine and TV with Netflix, Prime, Hulu etc. There may be some jostling over bedroom choices with quirky features such as an LED ceiling thundercloud light in one and starry galaxy mood lighting in another. Whichever room the kids end up in, they won’t be disappointed with playful décor in each making every room into an enjoyable chill out space. Meal times are lots of fun, with an outdoor grill and informal seating for sunset BBQ’s. Solar powered lights keep the fun outside at nightfall so guests can gather around the firepit for stargazing, S’mores and storytelling.
Things to Know
Minimum stay 2 nights. Please note that the yard is not enclosed and younger children should be supervised. The pool is also ungated and there is a hot tub which younger children should also be supervised around. If you wish to use the spa, the hosts charge a flat rate of $40 per day (+ tax) to cover the cost of propane gas. Please let the hosts know at least 1 day prior to check-in if you would like the spa heated upon your arrival. The cowboy pool is not heated. This is a solar powered ‘smart home’ equipped with e-locks for self-check and high speed wifi for those working remotely, though speeds may vary. The property has a propane BBQ and firepit. There is central air conditioning and ceiling fans for cooling. Pets are welcome at an additional $75 cleaning & companion fee per pet. Additional guests are welcome at a fee of $50/night (plus booking fees & taxes) applied per guest over the 4th to cover extra cleaning and amenity usage. The hosts kindly request that there is no outdoor noise between the hours of 10pm – 8am in line with county ordinances. There are security cameras on the property – a ring doorbell is in use to monitor the driveway and the entrance. There is private parking available and a public EV charging station nearby at Joshua Tree Distillery, which allows charging for up to 2 hours per day.
About the Location
The homestead is located in Monument Manor, the closest neighborhood to Joshua Tree’s Park entrance which is about a 15 minute walk away. The property is surrounded by mountains and is located at the highest elevation in Joshua Tree. There are several stables offering horse trekking in the area, just a short drive from the property. Downtown Joshua Tree is around a 15 minute drive and Yukka valley, home to the Hi-desert Nature Museum, is about 20 minutes’, both of which have supermarkets, shops and restaurants. The Joshua Tree Friendly Hills park with climbing frame and playground is less than 10 minutes’ drive from the vacation house. Keys Ranch, a historic ranching station set in a canyon with guided tours is around 30 minutes’ drive. Palm Springs and Coachella are under an hour’s drive away and the Big Bear mountain resorts are an hour’s drive north. The nearest airport is Palm Springs international which is 55 minutes by car.
Accommodation Details
This property has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms set over 1 floor. The living areas are set up open plan style with a large corner sofa, flat screen TV and record player in 1 corner, a dining table for 8 behind and a kitchen with breakfast bar seating 3. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the necessities, including a coffee maker and filtered drinking water. There are 4 bedrooms spread out throughout the house. The primary bedroom (Sun Room) has a queensize bed with a private ensuite bathroom; the second bedroom (Thunder room) has a queensize bed and an LED ceiling thunder cloud light and the third bedroom (the Star room) also has a queensize bed with starry galaxy mood lighting. The fourth is bedroom doubles up as an entertainment space (the Purple room) with a silent disco machine, Nintendo console, TV, bean bags and queensize sofa bed to convert to a bedroom space. There is a seperate, additional bathroom with bathtub for these rooms. The outside space is spread over 7.5 acres and is ungated. Immediately surrounding the house is a large astroturf with patio surround and several different seating areas including an 8 seater sofa with firepit. On the patio is a kingsize day bed, and a propane BBQ. Around the corner is a tiki bar with 4 barstools and a ‘spa’ area with hot tub, unheated ‘cowboy pool’ for refreshing dips and a sun deck large enough for yoga and sunbathing. There is a private hiking trail from the property, leading up the rocky formation behind up to a star landing viewing platform.

We love the wooden sun deck with hot and cool tubs so you can soak away whatever time of day, breathing in the warm desert air and the mountain scenery.
