Perks for the Parents
This modern-rustic 14th Century palazzo, on the Tuscany-Lazio border, is utterly unique. It sleeps 6 + 2. Maid service, WiFI and USB-ready TV are included. Other extras include a grocery shopping service, Italian cookery classes, wine and cheese tasting and a personal driver and tours. The rooms are large, lavish and filled with contemporary design details. There is a study area with private bathroom and shower. A butler is available to help unload your bags and transport them to the house on entry to the village.
Why Kids Love it
This truly unique house appeals to all ages - the color, unique design details and pedestrianized town, where you can feel relaxed while the kids explore, are all a bonus. Note that the residence has few books, toys and games - bring some with you. A crib, high chair and TV with DVD player are available. The first bedroom can accommodate up to 5 children as a dorm room, with a kingsize bed and either sofa bed or 2 twin beds. Nearby attractions include Lake Bolsena, where you can swim in crystal clear waters in summer and plenty of towns selling child-pleasing pizza, pasta and gelato.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 4 nights. The security deposit for this property is not taken on booking by Kid & Coe but is levied separately by the host on check in. The price listed is for occupancy of 6; additional guests including children over 2 are charged at $60 per person per night. Note that there are some hazards for small children: drops, a number of stone staircases and an unfenced pool, and we would not recommend it for those with toddlers. It is a very vertical house - not great for the mobility impaired or if you or the children are likely to have trouble with stairs. There is an additional charge for pool heat in the low season (mid Oct - early Apr). For full details, please contact the host.
About the Location
Civita di Bagnoregio is a hilltown in Tuscany that is fully pedestrianized and accessible only by a footbridge and Etruscan gateway. The town itself is truly characterful, with winding streets and neighborhood cafés. It is like stepping back in time: the town is made of tufa rock and basalt pavements and has a feeling all of its own. It is reachable from Florence, Rome and Perugia airports (1.5 hours’ drive) and car hire is recommended to explore the nearby attractions: Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio’s characterful towns, Lake Bolsena and the palaces, gardens and vineyards nearby.
Accommodation Details
This large villa has is laid out over 3 floors with 2 bedrooms on the second floor, a living room and kitchen on the first floor and 1 bedroom with study and bath on the ground floor. From the study you can access the underground caves with swimming pool, hot tub, art gallery and private wine cellar. There are formal Italian gardens with sensational views. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom; 2 of them have queensize beds and 1 has a kingsize bed and either a sofa bed or 2 single beds in addition.
Style Notes
This renovated 14th century palazzo is like no other property - fittingly, since it is in an utterly unique town also. With stone arches, high ceilings, grand proportions and contemporary design touches, it is an impressive sight. Sat above a series of caves with an art gallery and wine cellar, it blends historic charm with modern day utility. We love the details: black glass chandeliers, gilded mirrors and candlesticks with cherubs’ heads, Eames chairs and bird cages.

Bagnoregio, Tuscany
The town where time stood still
Civita di Bagnoregio is extraordinarily special: a pedestrianised Medieval hilltop town around 90km north of Rome where it feels that time has stood still. Explore the narrow streets and pretty gardens; eat pizza in the main square and make friends with the local donkeys. It’s an unforgettable place.
