Billed as the ‘world’s first city center elegant family hotel’, it has 37 apartments, all with a kitchen complete with a stove, dishwasher, washer-dryer, fridge and basic crockery, cutlery and pots and pans to make your city-centre stay perfectly manageable, and enjoyable with little children. Relax with a Nespresso coffee - or tea - and browse daily newspapers. The hotel includes a cozy family café, Bar 1855 Gin Garden which serves 3 meals a day; breakfast baskets with patisserie items, fruit, milk, yoghurt, jam and orange juice, and room service. Breakfast is included in all bookings.

Why Kids Love it

The hotel is well set up for children, with suites including bunk beds and twin beds, and cribs on demand. There is a kids club operating from 6 months to early teens, allowing parents to explore Lisbon by day and night (24hr advance booking is required): Crèche – from 6 to 35 months - with sensory play, baby gym, story telling, puppet theater and more. Raposinhos Room – from 3 to 9 years - creative, educational or active sessions, all lead by an experienced team of children’s entertainment specialists. The activities include art & crafts; games, Lego Station, indoor Climbing wall and more. There's also a Mini Disco and Pyjama Club ( both 3 years and up). Babysitting in apartments can be arranged on request as well. Extra baby/child items provided include bed rails, toilet seat adapters, stair gates, baby bottle steriliser, cribs and more. The family concierge team helps to arrange item such as bottle sterilisers pre-arrival to make a stay easy.

About the Location

The hotel is in the Chiado district of central Lisbon, steps from restaurants, culture, shops and the city’s characterful cobbled streets. The hotel can provide itineraries and suggestions for how to spend your time in the city with kids, including ice creameries, elevators, markets and parks. The hotel is a couple of streets from the city’s contemporary art museum and in a highly walkable location. Lisbon Portela airport is a 30-minute drive away. Car rental is not essential in this walkable neighborhood with great public transit options.

Deluxe Studios are ideal for a couple with a baby. They are 31 sqm in size with an open space kitchenette and a fullsize/double bed that can be adapted to a twin bed. They sleep up to 2 adults plus a baby in a crib (on request).
Superior Deluxe Studios sleep a larger group. They are 42 sqm in size and include an open plan kitchenette, fullsize/double bed (or twin beds as required) and a bunk bed. They sleep up to 2 adults and 2 children (aged up to 12) plus a baby in a crib (on request).
1 Bedroom Deluxe Apartments are 54 sqm in size and include a living room (where a Bunk Bed is located) with kitchenette and a sleeping area with fullsize/double bed and crib on request. They sleep up to 2 adults, 2 children and a baby.
1 Bedroom Superior Deluxe Apartments are 71 sqm in size and include a living room with kitchenette and a sleeping area with fullsize/double bed, bunk bed and crib on request. They sleep up to 2 adults, 2 children and a baby.
1 Bedroom Premium Deluxe Apartments are 78 sqm in size and include include a living room with kitchenette, a bedroom with fullsize/double bed and crib on request, and 1 or 2 single beds in adjacent sleeping area. They sleep 3-4 plus a baby.
2 Bedroom Deluxe Apartments are 78 sqm in size and have a double bedroom with ensuite shower bathroom, a kids room with 2 bunkbeds (sleeping 4), a living room, kitchen and bathroom with bath. They sleep up to 2 adults and 4 children (age under 12) plus a baby.
2 Bedroom Superior Deluxe Apartments are set over 1 floor with a mezzanine level and include a double bedroom, a bedroom with twin beds, an open plan living room and kitchen and an extra sleeping area with a bunkbed. They are 99 sqm and can sleep up to 4 adults and 2 children plus a baby.

Style Notes

The building dates to 1855 and has been thoroughly updated to provide stylish modern apartments without compromising the 19th century architecture, with large wooden windows and narrow balconies with views over the city. Inside, bold colors mix in true Portuguese style: orange and green, plus pastel colors against wood and cork. Art displayed is by acclaimed Portuguese contemporary artists Jorge Santos, Angela Ferreira aka Kruella D’Enfer, Ana Aragão and Ana Pérez Quiroga. All pieces were commissioned especially for the hotel. The quirky gin bar includes a BMW Isetta as part of the furniture. We love the mixture of modern design and historic building, the excellent setting and the pops of color, making a stay here design-focused and fun.

We absolutely loved our stay at Martinhal Lisbon Chiado - our apartment was beautiful and spacious for a family of four - we were very comfortable there. There were snacks and a bit of food waiting for us on arrival, which was great. My kids loved the kids club so much we could not get them to go to dinner with us after their first night with the other kids. We would recommend this to any family with young kids traveling in Lisbon!

Our stay at Marthinal was perfect. Excellent location in Lisbon, one of the most kids friendly hotel. We had a water leak in our appartment and the staff replace it with a larger one.

Everything at the Martinhal Lisbon Chiado was perfect from start to finish. The staff was knowledgable, patient, and helpful. The room was perfect. The play are was a fantastic bonus that we used every day. The restaurant was both delicious and laid out well for families. We can't wait to come back here or to other Martinhal properties.

Our family stayed here twice on our trip to Portugal. The hotel staff was very friendly, and worked to get us into our room as soon as we checked in which was very much appreciated. The location was perfect to walk to most of the areas of Lisbon we wanted to experience and several good restaurants were nearby. Our kids loved their bunk beds in the room. We were also able to take advantage of the kids club to get our for an adults only dinner. While our kids were a little older than the average age we saw, they still enjoyed their dinner and movie.

Our family stayed here twice during our trip to Portugal and it was a great home base to explore Lisbon. The location was very convenient to shops, restaurants, and public transportation. The small coffee shop up the street was very good as well. The staff was very accommodating of our early check-in request and was helpful in showing us around the property and explaining how the appliances in our room worked. The kids loved their bunk beds and the gift bags, and these parents liked that milk, water and orange juice and a few treats were provided as it saved a trip to the market to buy a few essentials. Our room was spacious and very clean. Overall, our family fell in love with Portugal. We stayed at another Martinhal property in the Algavre and had a great experience there as well. Both very well run properties with friendly, helpful staff.

WOW! This place was FANTASTIC. We did not have any idea how incredibly amazing this place was going to be. We will definitely be returning to Martinhal (and checking out their other locations throughout Portugal). Loved the thoughtfulness of it all- from the arrival gift bags for the kiddos to the free drink ticket for the parents, the apartment was luxorious and wonderful and the kids club was just what our kiddos needed after 14 days of busy travel (arts and crafts were so fun!) A special thanks to Rita for her helpfulness and personal attention! You all made us feel so welcome.
