A spacious beachside residence set on sandy Alamitos Bay with ocean views, its own hot tub and paddle boards/kayaks to borrow. It sleeps 10+2. Set in a quiet enclave with no boardwalks the residence enjoys privacy and peace alongside its spectacular open water views. With over 3 floors well set up for family living, this substantial house has plenty of space for a large family or 2 groups with 5 spacious bedrooms including a kids’ bunk room and a roomy primary bedroom with a kingsize bed and a waterfront balcony. Downstairs spaces have doors which slide open, providing direct access to the pretty alfresco deck where there’s a hot tub and a firepit for evening gatherings. From here the kids can run straight on to the beach so parents can watch the kids play while relaxing. The cafes, restaurants and bars of downtown Long Beach are a short cycle or car ride away.

Why Kids Love it

Kids can fully embrace beach life here with a wide, sandy beach for their garden, close enough to explore while parents keep watch from the house. The hosts provide kayaks, paddle boards and beach toys to borrow so there’s plenty of ways to enjoy the water. Little paddlers can enjoy making sandcastles and splashing around along the calm shoreline. The huge outdoor terrace provides additional places to play, and the gas lined firepit is perfect for camp out style gatherings beneath stars come nightfall. Inside, the house is full of toys and games with a cabin house bunk bed that younger kids will adore. There’s a TV and plenty of hangout space in the living room for night time movie screenings or gym equipment for teens after something more active. The hustle and bustle of downtown Long Beach and the Pacific Aquarium are a short cycle or car ride away and Disneyland is also within easy reach.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 1 night. The residence is set over 3 stories, so there are stairs – stair gates can be provided on request. The hot tub outside is unfenced so younger ones should be supervised. There are 2 cribs which can be set up on request for those travelling with babies. The residence has air conditioning and WiFi. The hosts are happy for guests to borrow beach equipment. The house is set at the very end of the peninsula, which is the safest part with no boardwalks or traffic. There are 2 parking spaces available directly in front of the house. Please note there is street cleaning on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Sorry, no pets.

About the Location

The residence is part of a rare collection of properties set directly on the sand of a quiet and safe peninsula in California’s Long Beach area. Considered to be the region’s “Gold Coast”, the homes in this quiet enclave benefit from privacy – there are no boardwalks with foot traffic – and properties are rarely traded so it’s a friendly neighborhood. Ideal for beach lovers, the residence is surrounded by water with Alamitos bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other; Alamitos park is a short walk for those in need of some grassy space. The hustle and bustle of downtown Long Beach is easily accessible with the main stretch a 10 – 15 minute cycle away offering up restaurants, cafes, a public swimming pool and Long Beach Art Gallery. The excellent Aquarium of the Pacific is a 15 minute drive or 30 minute cycle with interactive exhibits. For those keen to explore the wider area, Orange County and Newport beach are a 30 minute drive along the coast or if Disneyland is calling, it’s a 30 minute drive inland.

Accommodation Details

The residence has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms set over 3 floors. The main entrance is at ground level where there’s a living room, dining room and fully equipped kitchen space with professional-grade kitchen appliances. The living area has sliding doors which open directly on to the ‘walk out’ beachside deck with its jacuzzi, fire pit, outdoor furniture, and beach access. The bedrooms are upstairs with the primary occupying the first floor, complete with a kingsize bed, TV, fitness bike, balcony access and a side area with a sofa, ideal for a crib. Bedrooms 2 and 3 have queensize beds, bedroom 4 a double and the kids’ room on the second floor has a cabin style bunk bed, a sofa, toys and plenty of play space. There are 4 bathrooms split between the floors with a combination of showers and baths.

Style Notes

On the beach. An attractive oceanfront villa with classic weatherboard exterior and huge, white picture windows flooding in the light and ocean views. The owners have painstakingly refurbished and restored its interiors with terra cotta tile floors and finishes, over-height beamed ceilings and the addition of a spacious waterfront balcony protected by native California plantings and a mature hedge wall to enhance privacy. Bedrooms are cool but cozy with carpet in the kids room and play area adding comfort for little crawlers. We love the seamless inside/outside living here with glass doors designed to be flung open onto balconies and terraces where it’s a hop, skip and a jump onto the sand or into the jacuzzi.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 15% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 15% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.
