Married in June of 2012, Heidi and Randy have been working hard to create a farm full of gardens, fruit trees/bushes, and love. There are chickens, two horses, two cats, and two dogs who reside on the farm. In November of 2013 a little baby Reed, aka Eloise, was added to the mix. Currently all the produce that is grown is used in the home kitchen as well as shared with neighbors. The farm is not certified anything, but everything grown is done so with a conscience. There are no insecticides or other chemicals used – spray free. On the farm the earth is treated with respect. We love our farm, but we also love to travel. As a family we have lived in Costa Rica and England for extended periods as well as traveled to other parts of Europe and all over the USA. We enjoyed hosting families so much we bought another house in a nearby village. The Batesville House has been a fun project full of love. We would love to host your family at either home.

Mountain hikes and farmer’s markets

With mountain views, wineries and plenty of quiet hiking trails, Nellysford is a good base for a weekender trip from DC and a family stay in the countryside. Just off the main route to the c, it is a growing community with a regular seasonal farmer’s market and the Rockfish Valley Natural History Center, ideal for when wet weather impedes gentle trail hikes with the kids.

We had a WONDERFUL time at Heidi's home. My 3 year old was in heaven with the new-to-him toys and it was so convenient to be able to feed my toddler and baby at the table without lugging around a clip on high chair. The kids had a blast running around the property and seeing the horses and my husband and I were able to actually relax a little because the kids were so captivated by everything. All in all a wonderful long weekend that was genuinely fun for the entire family.

My family went to visit the Spruce Creek residence for 5 days / 4 nights in mid May, and we were absolutely stunned at the beauty of the lush green farm. The house is quiet, clean and efficient, and boasts clean lines and excellent use of natural materials and decor. We have 5 children, 3 are under 3, and the house was comfortable for a family of our size. It had everything we needed and more and the children loved the outdoor space and animals, and didn't want to return to the city! Lots to do in the area, beautiful lakes, hiking, vineyards, restaurants, farmers market, etc. our hosts were wonderful in showing my children how to feed the chickens and horses etc, and explaining the edible plants from the garden. They were also gave us tons of space to relax and I left feeling centered and inspired.. Thanks for the great memories Reed Familiy!
