Perks for the Parents

This light and bright 3-bedroom apartment is right in the Rembrandtpark, 15 minutes by bike from the Jordaan District and Museum Quarter. It sleeps up to 6. It's an easy place to be - guests can cycle through the park over the bridge into the Vondelpark and straight to the museum district, avoiding traffic or take a yoga class at the yoga studio within the park. Also within an easy cycle ride is the Kinkerstraat, a street packed with cafés, and the De Hallen cultural center with its own food court, cafés, bars, public library and cinema.

Why Kids Love it

Children will love it here because the apartment is in a park. The apartment has some toys, animals and dolls in the wardrobes of the children's rooms, ideally suited to kids aged over 4. Parents can allow older kids to play below the balcony and keep an eye on them from the apartment. The park features climbing trees, a lake, a petting zoo and a building playground for kids aged 6 to 14 where they can make things out of wood, climb the treehouse and ride and learn to care for the ponies. On a rainy day, the apartment has HBO, film channels and super-fast WiFi.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 4 nights. There is an extra charge of 25EUR per person, per night for any groups of more than 4 occupants. There are no stairs within the apartment but young children will need supervision on the balcony. There is no bathtub in the bathroom. A cot and Tripp Trap high chair are available for little ones on request. Bicycle hire is available from a hire center in the park nearby. Car hire is not necessary as transport links and cycle paths are good, but there is parking available in the building if required at a cost of €20 per night. Please note there is no iron or ironing board.

About the Location

The residence is in the Nachtwachtlaan apartment block in the Overtoomse Veld area of Amsterdam. It is close to amenities, public transport and not far from the bustling city center. The nearest metro station is Lelylaan; Bus 18 from central station is a 18 minute ride directly to the roundabout outside the apartment building. The apartment is a 20-minute taxi ride from Schiphol airport. Much of central Amsterdam is accessible by bike. By bike, the apartment is 15 minutes from the Museum Quarter where you can find the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art and the Van Gogh Museum.

Accommodation Details

The 4th floor apartment has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and is on 1 level with elevator access. There is a fully-equipped open plan kitchen, a living room and a large hallway. All of the bedrooms have queensize beds (160 x 200cm, European kingsize). The family bathroom has a power shower only. Outside there is a south-facing outdoor balcony with a paddling pool.

Style Notes

Modern family. The apartment benefits from large windows overlooking green trees, oak flooring and large leafed house plants. The style is minimal with a Scandinavian influence and calming neutral walls. We love the fluffy and cosy sheepskin rugs in the kids’ bedrooms, the large living room that opens out onto the balcony with seating and the vintage wooden table and bench.

I am an Art Director and live with my two daughters 14 and 17 at the Nachtwachtlaan residences Amsterdam. We are a creative family who love to travel, paint, listen and make music and enjoy what life has to offer.

Overtoomse Veld, Amsterdam

Amsterdam's vegetable patch

To the west of the heart of the city, Overtoomse Veld is one of its key garden areas, known as Amsterdam’s vegetable patch. Around 15 minutes by tram into Centraal station, it has leafy residential streets and plenty of parks for picnics, though fewer places to eat out than other more central neighborhoods.

An excellent stay overall for the entire family. Even though the location is not ideal, there doesn’t seem to be such a thing anyway in Amsterdam. The short term rental availability is very limited so we knew we were going to be away from the center. However, this home was definitely worth the location. It was very spacious, well stocked and decorated. The host, Anat, was very helpful and went above and beyond to replace the AppleTV that wasn’t working during our stay. Highly recommend this beautiful home.

The Nachtwachtlaan Residence was the perfect base for our family break in Amsterdam. It is located in a quiet area of the city, but just a short tram or bus ride away from the centre. The apartment is light and spacious with an open-plan kitchen and living area, and lots of room for our teenagers to relax after a day sightseeing. Many thanks to Anat for being a great host.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Nachtwachtlaan. Anat's apartment is a beautiful space. We enjoyed being so close to parks and green space. The no.18 bus took us right into the heart of Amsterdam. I highly recommend the science museum if you're looking for a fun day out for the kids.

Nice owner, comfortable beds and bright apartment. Location a bit far from the center but allows you to discover another and perhaps more authentic side of the city - nice stay.
