Perks for the Parents

A beautifully decorated craftsman home with separate guest house accommodation in laid back Pasadena, a short drive from Universal Studios and some of LA’s best loved attractions. It sleeps 10 + 5. Ideal for large families, or 2 groups travelling together, this spacious home has plenty of space for socialising and relaxing, including an elegant living room, a cozy TV den, a large garden with alfresco dining and an enclosed porch area with a swing chair for the grown up kids. The separate guest house comes with its own kitchen and living room, ideal for grandparents or an accompanying nanny/au pair. The primary bedroom in the main house also offers plenty of peace and privacy with a kingsize bed, its own seating area and an ensuite bathroom. The 2 kids’ bedrooms come with toys, games and space to play, leaving more space downstairs for the parents. The local area is very family-friendly with several parks and playgrounds, and the Arroyo Seco Nature Trail at the end of the block.

Why Kids Love it

Home to 3 young kids, there is plenty of fun to be had here with playfully decorated bedrooms full of toys, books and games and a big, lawned backyard to run around in. There’s a sheltered porch area with a swing chair for shady play and picnics during the hotter times of day, and various hideaways to chill out inside including a book nook and a TV den with a DVD player for movie time. The kids’ bedrooms each sleep 2 for those who like to share, with 2 additional cribs available for sleeping up to 4 in the nursery room. Outdoors adventurers will love exploring the area with several playgrounds, parks and hiking trails a short walk away, and the hosts also provide bikes as a fun alternate way to explore the neighborhood. A little further afield, the Kidspace Children’s Museum and the Rose Bowl are just 6 minutes’ drive, while the Griffith Observatory, LA Zoo and Universal Studios are around 20 minutes away. The hosts are happy to provide amenities for multiple infants/toddlers, including cribs, highchairs and stairgates.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights. The residence is set over 2 levels without an elevator. There is an internal staircase with safety gates at the top and the bottom but please note that there are 2 steps between the entrance hall and the kitchen which are ungated so younger ones should be supervised. There’s a double sofa bed and up to 3 cribs available to sleep an additional 2 adult guests, and up to 3 babies/toddlers. There is good WiFi as well as air conditioning and a washer/dryer for added convenience. There is parking available on the driveway; the host’s car will be parked at the top of the drive but there is space for up to 3 additional cars. The hosts have a housekeeper and can help arrange extra visits on request. Sorry, no pets or parties.

About the Location

The residence is located in the historic, leafy South Arroyo neighborhood of Pasadena in northern Los Angeles. It's the ideal base for those looking to blend city time with laid back vibes. At the end of the street, the lovely La Loma Bridge offers views of the Arroyo below, as well as the San Gabriel Mountains and Los Angeles National Forest in the distance, which can be reached from a myriad of trailheads only 15-minutes from the house. The accessible Arroyo Seco Nature Trail is conveniently at the end of the block, and there are 3 charming playgrounds within walking distance from the house. Downtown Pasadena, and foodie favourite Highland Park, are both under 10 minutes’ drive with a good offering of kid-friendly cafes, restaurants and local markets. On the cultural front, the Norton Simon Museum, The Huntington Library and botanical gardens, the world-famous NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the Kidspace Children’s Museum - which has more than 40 hands-on exhibits - are all around 10 minutes’ drive away while Universal Studios is also within easy reach, 18 minutes away by car. Local metro stations are walkable from the house with connections to downtown LA (which can also be reached in 15 minutes by car). The closest international airport is LAX, 32 minutes’ drive.

Style Notes

Craftsman chic. This stylish, historic craftsman home, dating back to 1911, has been lovingly updated to preserve its period past whilst creating a cozy and charming home from home. Each space has been individually designed, featuring a mix of vintage and custom pieces alongside beautiful wallpapers and textiles. Calming neutrals set the overarching tone with splashes of color and pattern adding character and warmth. Built in bookshelves and window seats sit alongside arts and crafts tiling and pretty upholstery that more than uphold the craftsman aesthetic. We love the cottage style vibes, from the gables and ceiling beams, to the rustic brick fireplace and the pretty porch with its built in swing – the perfect spot to unwind in after a busy day in the city.

Hi - I’m Cristen, and I live in the beautiful South Arroyo neighborhood of Pasadena with my husband and our 3 daughters. We're pretty sure it's the best place to live in all of Los Angles and we feel so lucky that we get to raise our girls here. We think you'll love it too :) Fun fact - I’m an identical twin who has identical twins.

Pasadena, Los Angeles

Pasadena is a child's suburban utopia, with lazy streets perfect for biking, endless parks to choose from (start with Lacy Park) and the uber-playground Kidspace. Head to Indiana Colony Pasadena for gourmet ice cream at CoolHaus, California fresh fruit drinks at Pressed Juicery, sips at Legacy Tea and Spices, bites at Pie Hole and morning cofee at Intelligentsia. Snag some vintage finds at the Rose Bowl flea market or catch a football game at the same venue. And, for those lucky enough to be in town on or around the New Year, there's the block party of all block parties: the Rose Parade. In Pasadena, everything really is coming up roses...
