Perks for the Parents
This mid-century style family-friendly residence in Washington Crossing, PA blends natural surroundings with easy access to cities nearby. It sleeps 8 + 1. The living room is perfect for adults to hang out, while kids can go down to the family room for some space and watch the 55’ TV or relax on the ‘Nugget’ kids sofa and large leather couch. The office room/fourth bedroom is downstairs, separated from the main 3 bedrooms upstairs, so it’s ideal for families with teenagers or those traveling with nannies or grandparents. Alternatively, parents who need to work during their stay will have this office space to escape for some peace and quiet. The whole family will love the large backyard lawn, where you can relax on the back deck, climb the play cube for kids and spot the roaming wild deer and rabbits.
Why Kids Love it
This residence has plenty of toys and activities for children aged 3 and up, including Thomas the Train table, legos, megablocks, hot wheels, trucks/vehicles, art supplies, small and large puzzles, board games, kid's books, the Nugget play sofa, TV with Netflix and more. In the backyard there's a Climbing Cube structure with a built-in fort underneath, climbing wall, monkey bars and a slide - the perfect spot for kids to escape the parents. There’s plenty for kids to explore nearby - take a stroll along the canal, cycle the bike trail across the street and spot local animals like deer, rabbits, squirrels, birds, groundhogs and more. It's a family-friendly neighborhood with kids of all ages and paved roads that are ideal for bikes and scooters. A pack n' play and a high chair are available upon request.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 5 nights. Safety notes: this is a split level home (5 stairs up to the main level from the front door and another 7 up to the main bedrooms) so this may not be suitable for young children or those who struggle with steps. The hosts can be flexible on rates for monthly or long stays. There's a large driveway for parking (car rental is recommended) but the garage isn't available to guests. This is a residential neighborhood so quiet hours should be observed between 10pm - 7am and no parties or fireworks are allowed. The hosts prefer guests to remove shoes indoors. Sorry - no pets. The kitchen is well equipped with a microwave, toaster, Vitamix blender, 12-cup Coffee maker and bean grinder.
About the Location
This home is located in the historic town of Washington Crossing, PA - down river road from where George Washington crossed the Delaware River on New Years Day. Situated in the countryside surrounded by trees and lawn with 0.8 acre of land in a quiet, spacious neighborhood, the house is across from the canal yet just 10 minutes (or a 30-minute bike ride) from charming New Hope, PA and Lambertville, NJ with restaurants, shops and other activities. Nearby attractions are Bowman's Tower, and wildflower preserve, Peddler's Village and Rices Mill flea market. Downtown Philadelphia is a 35-minute drive (or via Yardley train station, 15 minutes away) and New York City is 1.5 hrs by car (or accessed via Trenton or Hamilton train stations, both 20 minutes away). The nearest playground is a 3-minute drive (Brownsburg Park) or 15 minutes to Cavallo Park. Colonial Farms market, Dominic’s Pizza and the nearest gas station are all a 5-minute drive. Philadelphia international airport is around 1 hour away; Lehigh Valley international airport is 1.5 hours away.
Accommodation Details
The house has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, set over 3 floors. On the lower level (up from the front entrance) there is an eat-in kitchen for 4, a large dining room (with expandable table for 10), and a choice of living areas: the main living room, a family room, front porch rockers and a back deck for outdoor meals which looks over the huge backyard and play area. Upstairs there are 3 main bedrooms: 1 with a kingsize bed, 1 with a double bed, and a children’s room with a set of bunk beds. The fourth bedroom can be used as an office or a bedroom, with a double sofabed. The hosts also have 1 travel crib for babies or toddlers. One of the bathrooms has a shower and bathtub perfect for bath time; the other bathroom has a walk-in shower. The hosts also have a Peloton bike in the laundry room, available for guests to use during their stay (subscription required).
Style Notes
Mid-century charm. The simple and mid-century style furniture has been selected to complement the traditional design of that period. The house retains the original bathroom, kitchen fixtures and appliances - despite the older-style kitchen and bathrooms, all the appliances function properly and are spotlessly clean. Original wood paneling in the family room and kitchen go well with the classic stone fireplace and wooden window frames. The hosts have recently re-finished the wood floors downstairs for a freshened look, together with new wall-to-wall carpet upstairs and freshly-painted white walls. We love the retro pastel bathroom tones, the colorful dining chairs and the quaint bay window in the living room.
