This beautiful and elegant restored country house on an ancient Umbrian estate sleeps 14 and is surrounded by ancient olive groves, truffle woods and vineyards. Part of the Carmine Estate, 20 minutes north of Perugia, it has terrific views of the local wildlife and offers a glimpse of unspoilt rural Italy.
The residence itself has been created from the original farmhouse and its 11th Century church to create 8 bedrooms and a host of modern and luxurious treats, including an area for yoga and meditation, a grand piano and a pull down screen for movies. With a lovely playground with swing and playhouse in the garden, a swimming pool, table tennis and a sitting room stocked with books, games, toys and coloring pens, it’s characterful, luxurious and perfect for families.

What we love

  • It’s bursting with character, from the high beamed ceilings to the sympathetically restored stonework and the original floor tiles
  • The residence is in two parts: the ancient church, which now houses a large kitchen, dining room and drawing room, and the 18th Century farmhouse, which has eight bedrooms and six bathrooms
  • Bedrooms are configured with five ensuite double bedrooms, and one double room and one single room which share a bathroom. An additional small single room has a basin and can share a bathroom
  • There’s a central sitting room for the farmhouse too, with a sofa, stereo, TV, books, games, toys and coloring pens for kids
  • Outside there are sunny terraces for alfresco dining, along with a large dining room indoors seating 14
  • For colder days, there’s a wood burning stove
  • The gardens are stunning - landscaped with rosemary and lavender plus olive trees and more
  • The pool has a gate and shallow end and a shaded area beside it for very hot days

Things to know

  • The residence is 30 minutes from Perugia Airport and 40 minutes from the center of the city
  • We would recommend hiring a car to get the best of the area
  • The residence has WiFi throughout plus TV and DVD player, and various toys, books and games
  • Extra services can be booked, including daily cleaning, babysitting, wine tours, truffle hunting, beauty treatments, guided tours and guided walks
  • It’s a fully self-catering property, but you can book a cook or cooking lessons if you wish
  • All guests receive a welcome pack with estate-grown olive oil and vegetables (in season)
  • Pre-arrival shopping is available and catering services can be provided on request
  • The pool area is enclosed with a low safety gate
  • It’s a wonderful area to explore, with truffle woods, local wildlife parks and water parks nearby, plus the university town of Perugia around half an hour away, and easy access to Tuscany and La Marche

Really super house for a multi-family holiday. Great indoor / outdoor space and fantastic pool area. Could be seen by some as a little remote - a good drive to a full-service supermarket, but on site services such as yoga, Pilates, massages and pedicures meant mum + dads got some R + R. As this place has some serious history, planning restrictions meant there is no air-con, but ceiling fans built-in and extra fans were provided.
