A cool and contemporary cabin in rural Portugal, for a nature-based escape. It sleeps 5. This home is perfectly designed for family living: it features a separate upstairs bedroom for parents, while the kids can have their own space on the ground floor in cute cozy cabin beds. The dining area is ideally suited for family meals, and during the summer months, the large terrace (complete with a family table and sun shade) offers an amazing outdoor living space. From there, you can relax while keeping an eye on the kids as they enjoy the pool or play in the garden. Ask the hosts to help you arrange a goat's cheese making workshop, order local bread deliveries, set up wine tasting days or book outdoor activities nearby.

Why Kids Love it

This house is perfect for children, with heaps of outdoor space for play, including a trampoline, swings, and swimming pool, plus the added fun of farm animals like donkeys, dogs, cats and chickens for little ones to interact with. There’s even a grass soccer field for active play. Indoors, kids will love climbing and exploring this unique house, with a ladder staircase and built-in bunks to create a treehouse-style vibe. Take the kids out cycling (electric bicycles are available for rent) or hiking in the hills, then return home for pizza making in the garden!

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights, though exceptions may be made upon request during certain seasons. Safety notes: the ground floor opens via a sliding glass door to a terrace and garden, which includes an unfenced swimming pool and lake, so it may not be suitable for very young toddlers unless they can be supervised at all times. Please note that there are animals on the property, and tame cats and dogs may visit the garden. The property has 2 restrooms and is highly insulated, with cork walls and heated floors. Heating and cooling are efficiently managed with a heat pump system powered by solar panels. Innovative solutions have been applied on site to include as much eco-efficiency as possible (the hosts will be happy to show them to you when you visit).

About the Location

The house is situated on the edge of a small village of just 40 residents, in Central Portugal. It's a typical rural village with stone-walled houses, part of the Schist Villages network. It’s equidistant between Porto and Lisbon for international airports (around 1.5-2 hours to both by car). It’s around 30 minutes from Coimbra and less than an hour from popular tourist sites like Fatima, Tomar, and the West Atlantic beaches. For ease, a shuttle service is available from the airports or the Coimbra train station directly to this location. Car rental is essential to explore the area.

Accommodation Details

The house is set over 2 floors, with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. The primary kingsize bedroom is upstairs, boasting large sliding doors which lead to a private terrace with stunning mountain views. The ground floor features an open-plan living and dining area, complete with a fireplace for cozy winter days, and a fully equipped open kitchen (with Nespresso coffee machine). In the living areas, there are 2 single built-in beds that function as seating areas when not in use. Additionally, there is a comfortable sofa facing the TV, with views of the terrace and the outdoor pool. A fifth guest can be accommodated on an extra sofabed on request.

Style Notes

Contemporary Cool. The house was built by architect Pedro Brigida, renewing a historic old stone barn with natural materials like stone, wood and cork. The design is simple and minimalist, focusing on usability and efficient space utilization. The result is a Nordic-European style home that is comfortable year-round, with a natural ambiance inspired by its backdrop. We love the cozy built-in beds, which feel fun yet practical, as well as the super modern fireplace and the cleverly concealed wooden storage throughout.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 15% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 15% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.
