Perks for the Parents

Set in Ria Formosa Natural Park, Martinhal Quinta offers a family-friendly collection of independently-owned luxury villas ranging from 2-bedroom townhouses to 5-bedroom villas – each with a private pool. For parents who would like some time together, there is a creche and kids’ clubs for ages 8 and below. Babysitting can be organized for any age from a few months old on request. While your accommodation will have a fully equipped kitchen, there are also 2 restaurants on site: M Bar and Gelataria with snacks and pizza, homemade ice cream and waffles next to the pool, and O Terraҁo with delicious buffet breakfasts. The Mercado Deli & Bake has fresh pastries and juices. Guests have full access to all resort facilities, leisure activities, kids club, and events and entertainment.

Why Kids Love it

Kids are central to the philosophy of all the Martinhal resorts and they aim to cater for babies to teenagers. For babies there is fully staffed children’s crèche (6 to 23 months) and all baby essentials provided. There are two Kids Clubs – Raposinhos from 6 months to 5 years + The Fox Club from 6 to 8 years. They cater to children with daily activities, toys and games. Kids age 9 and up will appreciate the (unsupervised) Blue Room, an indoor playroom, that has PlayStations, Xboxes, Wiis and WiFi, as well as table tennis, table football and board games. Kids will love the outdoor pool with a water slide and water features, the trademark trampoline and shady sand pit area.

Things to Know

Safety notes: a fence around the pool can be erected on request. Guests can pre-book all the baby equipment needed from bottle sterilizers to safety gates and buggies, free of charge. Nappies, baby food and other baby essentials are available from the shop, Mercado Deli & Bake. Restaurants have healthy options for children and toddlers and a variety of fresh purées for babies. WiFi is free throughout the resort. Please note that all houses are different so villas' room configurations and bed offerings may differ. All villas include a fully-equipped designer kitchen (with washing machine and dryer), an open plan living and dining room. Toiletries, bed linens and towels are included. Kids Clubs are season dependent and an additional charge most of the year. Babysitting is available from €20 (£15) per hour up to 2 children from 8pm-12am.

Style Notes

Contemporary, family-friendly, fun. This accommodation is set in a leafy enclave and with landscaped gardens and pretty bougainvillea. Houses are white or cream with the area’s signature red roofs. The luxury villas and townhouses are independently owned so décor ranges from owner to owner. You can typically expect terracotta flooring, contemporary furniture and regional artisan touches such as locally-made pottery and tiles. All villas have air conditioning and their own pool with daily maid service. We love the resort’s superb facilities for young kids, the lovely outdoor shared pool, and the signature VW camper van.

Whilst it was a lovely change from normal life during pandemic times the villa at Martinhal was not of the standard I expect from Kid and Coe villas. We took the 5 bedroom option and the size of the villa was more than adequate for the number in my party. But the location within the complex was not ideal with a road at the back of the villa and the main pool area which made for a higher than desirable noise level. Certainly in the summer the noise from the pool would have been very intrusive. The villa interior was in need of updating and was certainly not of a high spec. The kitchen was reasonably well stocked with cutlery, chinawear, etc but was very dated and in need of modernisation. The pool was surrounded with a temporary child safe fence which did not cover the whole area but this did not prove a problem as the pool was too cold for a child to use!! The discovery of a dead rodent in the pool was also a serious deterrent to swimming but was dealt with quite speedily when reception was informed. The terrace area also needed some cleaning as spillages from previous tenants had not been hosed away. The play area for a 2 and 5 year old was not very exciting or really inadequate to keep them entertained for any time. Sadly my expectations based on previous rentals with your company were not matched in this instance.
