This modern architect-designed beach house with panoramic ocean views sleeps 8 and is perfect for a family with school-aged children. A quiet countryside retreat, The Tecoma Way Residence is a world apart from city life and the tourist crunch, yet it is just a short drive away from Cape Town’s cosmopolitan cultural attractions, entertainment, international cuisine, and world-renowned wine country. The house is filled with natural
light and warmth, with multiple cozy living areas, a fully-stocked chef’s kitchen, and gorgeous hardwood floors throughout. We love the stunning sea and mountain views
from every room, the vaulted ceiling in the upstairs living area, and the modern loft-style design touches. At the doorstep of the Cape Point Nature Reserve and steps away from pristine white sand beaches, it is a fantastic home base for beachgoers, hikers, and water sports enthusiasts. Step through the Constantia doors onto the wraparound deck for some impromptu whale watching while the kids splash in the private swimming pool. In the
evening, warm up next to the wood-burning fireplace with a glass of local wine.

  • The fully-stocked gourmet eat-in kitchen with stainless steel appliances and bench seating invites families to spend time together cooking and chatting
  • The private, child-proofed swimming pool with ocean views and deck seating
  • The telescope for whale watching on the wraparound deck
  • The lovely, fully-enclosed fynbos garden
  • The wood-burning fireplace for warming up on chilly nights

Things to know

  • Just under 1 hour to Cape Town city center by car or taxi
  • Approximately 1 hour to Cape Town International Airport by car
  • Car hire is essential, as there is no local train service. Be aware that cars drive on the left side of the road in South Africa. The MetroRail train line from nearby Simon’s Town to Cape Town center offers scenic ocean views and occasional whale sightings as it runs right along the sea
  • Free, secure onsite car parking is available for three cars behind automated gates
  • Home security system included. Safe residential area in a quiet seaside village with only about 350 houses. Very quiet at night
  • Two bedrooms are upstairs and two are downstairs; there are living areas on both floors
  • Baby cot available upon request
  • Private swimming pool is child-proofed. Stair gates and crib are available upon request as well as toys for toddler age children. All kids should be attended around the fireplace and fire pit when in use. The decking has open railing and kids should be watched in this area
  • The nearest large grocery store is a 15 minute drive in Noordhoek

I am American and my husband is South African, so we end up doing a fair amount of travel just to see friends and family. South Africa is still one of our favourite places to explore - both the Cape and the bush. We also love getting our culture fix in the historic meanders of Europe, in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom especially, as well as going to the wilds of Patagonia. Since I'm from the Rockies, we love the mountains -one of our most special places was El Chalton in Argentina. Our house in Scarborough is located in one of the most special places we've found.

Cape Town’s Seaside Sanctuary

About an hour south of Cape Town, the seaside village of Scarborough is a world apart from city life. Adjacent to the Cape Point Nature Reserve with views of the Cape of Good Hope, Scarborough is surrounded by natural beauty with easy access to Table Mountain National Park, Cape Peninsula National Park, the Baskloof Nature Reserve, Camel Rock, and the aptly named Misty Cliffs.
