Agostino Pacciani is a Paris based photojournalist whose photographss have been published in the press worldwide. He began his career in 1989, crossing theatres throughout Europe photographing ballet, dance, theatre and operas. His photographs, from the productions at the Palais Garnier to the theatre festivals at Avignon and Aix-en-Provence, have been published and exhibited in Europe and in the USA. In 1994 and 1995, the siege of Sarajevo radically changed his perspective and when he went to photograph daily life in wartime, he realized that this what he wanted to record henceforth in his work. His profoundly humane photographs are unique records of the war. After that, as a committed war photographer, he has covered events in Albania, in Kosovo, in sub-Saharan Africa, in Algeria, in Morocco, in Chile, in Brazil. In 1998 Pacciani made his first journey to the Gaza strip and returned several times, becoming a familiar figure camera in hand in the disaster zone. He revealed life in desperate circumstances, growing up in a war zone, working withing the constraints of a curfew and restrictions, family life during the Intifada, up to the inside life of militants. He has never stayed in hotels or humanitarian agencies but with the families he has befriended. Likewise in Kurdistan and Iraq where he spent the early months of 2003. Clandestine immigration from Morocco to Spain has been a subject of research. After the tsunami in December 2005, Pacciani went straight to Sri Lanka and Indonesia, sent by UNESCO. The war in Lebanon in 2006 brought Pacciani there for a unique kind of photographic docudrama about the different communities. Since, he has returned to Sri-Lanka and Sarajevo to report on post-catastrophe reconstruction and has completed an important series of in-depth photographs about Sicily. Pacciani’s work has been published in publications worldwide, including Géo, Figaro Magazine, Repubblica, New York Times Magazine, Newsweek and many others, His photographs have been shown in Washington, Sarajevo, Paris, Sienna and at UNESCO Born in Siena, Italy, Agostino Pacciani initially studied geology and discovered his passion for photography in New York. He has never looked back since and is based in Paris
