Perks for the Parents

The perfect Umbrian retreat for 2 families to vacation together, with a heated pool, hot tub, spacious gardens and fabulous views. It sleeps 12. The property combines 2 of 4 private villas in a large, recently built country house close to Lake Trasimeno and the village of Piegaro. The villas are connected by external stairs only, and together they make the perfect holiday home for 2 families. This year-round destination offers woodburning stoves, underfloor heating and the steaming hot tub for the cooler months, as well as lazy pool days in the heat of summer. Parents can enjoy the spacious lawned garden, the relaxed dining table under the pergola, as well as the large, comfortable upstairs terrace with cushioned seating, sun loungers and a further shaded dining space.

Why Kids Love it

The private heated pool sits just below the property in its own garden, with plenty of additional space to lounge around the water while watching the kids swim and admiring the dreamy views. There is a Playstation 3 available on request and Apple TV for chilled-out evenings. Beaches and watersports are a short drive away at Lake Trasimeno (25 km) while tennis and horseriding are also available nearby - ask the host for details. For parents with babies and toddlers, a cot and high chair are available on request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. Safety notes: The heated (12 x 7m) pool has an automatic safety cover. The terrace can be closed off with baby gates. There is a ground-floor apartment for those with accessibility needs. Rates include toiletries produced exclusively in Umbria, as well as bed linen and towels (including ones for pool use) which are changed weekly. A cleaner also comes, briefly, mid-week. The pool and garden are maintained throughout the year. There is no AC but the bedrooms have fans for summer. In the summer, the baker delivers to the property twice a week. The professional hosts are happy to tailor-make itineraries for guests, including guided tours of national parks, city culture tours or other activities. They can also organise cooking lessons, a private chef for your entire stay or someone who can prepare certain meals or a BBQ when required for special occasions.

About the Location

The property is close to Piegaro in Umbria, Italy. This sleepy Medieval town has a selection of restaurants and shops including a butchers, bakery, greengrocers and a couple of bars. On route to Perugia, the town of Tavernelle de Panicale (9km) is a little larger with a few more choices, or you could head to Città della Pieve (13km) and Paciano (18km). There are long walks directly from the property and for keen golfers, there’s a choice of a 9-hole course at the Lamborghini Golf Course in nearby Panicarola (16 km) or 18 holes at Golf Club Perugia in Ellera Umbra (28 km). The world-famous annual Umbria Jazz festival takes place in the first two weeks of July (previous artists include Diana Krall, John Legend and Lady Gaga) while the Palio Medieval festival brings Città della Pieve to life in August every year. The closest airport is Perugia (45km) or Florence (165km). The train station at Chiusi (22km) is ideal for direct journeys to Rome and Florence and offers a car rental service.

Accommodation Details

The property offers 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. The bedrooms can be set up as double or twin rooms, all beautifully styled with colorful Missoni Home pieces, industrial-style lighting and crisp cotton bed linen. There are 5 shower rooms, 4 of which are ensuite and a separate one shared between 2 bedrooms on the first floor. The property has 2 kitchens: 1 is part of the airy loft living space and the other one is a separate room on the ground floor. Both have reclaimed wood cupboard doors and marble worktops, as well as Smeg ovens with five-burner gas hobs, a dishwasher and a stand-alone Smeg fridge-freezer. There are also 2 living areas providing lots of space for everyone to relax, plus a separate dining room. You’ll find 2 separate utility rooms with a washing machine and tumble dryer in each.

Style Notes

Vibrant and colorful. The property was built in 2011 and renovated by the hosts in 2017. Built in a traditional style with a modern design, the cotto floors and beamed ceilings are mixed with reclaimed wooden cupboards, vibrant design classics and Missoni textiles. Antiques, industrial lighting and pops of color are used to create a functional yet stylish effect. One of the living spaces boasts a comfortable corner sofa and a couple of bright yellow Dutch Gispen chairs, with a modern wood-burning stove for cooler days. At the other end of the room is an old wooden farmhouse dining table with six Eames chairs. We love the bathroom sink consoles made from reclaimed wood, the artisanal tiles as basin splashbacks and the bold Missoni cushions in the large ground-floor living room.
