Perks for the Parents

The view from this panoramic alpine apartment is killer. It is in the Val Lumnezia or 'Valley of Light' region, one of the most beautiful - though relatively unknown - valleys of the Swiss Alps, known for its small but exquisite and family-friendly tourism. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and plenty of equipment for babies and kids including a baby bed, baby chair, bunk beds for 4 kids and toys and books. Beautiful design complements the view. The egg-shaped bath is perfect after a day on the slopes of the Val Lumnezia / Obersaxen ski area (> 150 km slopes). You can ski from the front door in winter; the famous ski areas of Flims-Laax, Brigels and Disentis are 20-30 minutes away by car.

Why Kids Love it

The residence is packed with toys and books and the kids room is colorful. There is a shared garden plus a sports field with teeter board, sand box, swing, soccer and basketball only a minute away. There is a mountain lake with kids facilities and mountain sport activities (summer and winter) nearby too. A playground with items for all ages is a 1 minute walk away. There are perfect walking conditions as well ski classes and slopes for kids in the local area. There are several outdoor and indoor swimming pools and lakes nearby. In summer, the mountain lake Davos Muntz Badesee is only 1km away for swimming and sunbathing.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 4 days in low season, 1 week in peak season. The apartment is fully kid-proofed and there are no particular concerns for kids. The terrace is closed with double fenced and glassed security fences, and doors to it can be locked. Smoking is not allowed, neither are pets. Val Lumnezia and Vignogn village are part of the retro-Roman speaking part of Switzerland (one of the 4 official Swiss languages), although the local population in general speaks fluent German and fairly good English, French and Italian. Car hire recommended but also well-suited for slow travel by public transport. Note: There is an additional laundry charge of €25 per person that will be added on to the total cost of the stay once a booking is accepted.

We are a young family with two cute little boys of 2 and 4 years old. During our holidays we love to travel to authentic and family-friendly places where there is preferably ... lots of sun and/or snow ... unspoiled nature and wide panoramas ... a fascinating culture and good authentic food ... or a combination of all :)

Vignogn, Swiss Alps

Our family of four (two children, ages 9 and 11) stayed at the Val Lumnezia residence at the beginning of June. Although there was a small hiccup upon arrival, the Kid&Coe team and Xavier were very responsive and quickly sorted everything out. We really appreciated the great customer service by both owner and Kid&Coe! Now to the residence: Lovely! It is modern yet warm, and the flat is bright, clean, and beautifully appointed. Lots of space for everyone and very comfortable. I think the views were truly the highlight though. We awoke each day to exclaim at the beauty surrounding us. And the landscape constantly changed throughout the day as sun and clouds moved across the sky. It was breathtaking. Early June has changeable weather, but we were able to hike the beautiful surrounding trails every day, rain or shine. The house came equipped with plenty of hiking maps and books, which we appreciated. Davos Munoz is within easy walking distance and wonderful for a warm sunny day. The kids absolutely loved it. The house came equipped with quality children’s toys—our children have aged out of these but enjoyed them nonetheless. :) Because the valley is a bit remote, I do recommend a car for this location—at least in the low season. I think there is more frequent bus service in the high season. We took the train to Chur and rented a car there. We mainly bought groceries in Ilanz, but there is a small market in walking distance to the house. Val Lumnezia is off the beaten path for Americans especially, and I almost don’t want to share this review because it is such a hidden gem—I want to keep it that way! Those looking for natural beauty, wonderful hiking opportunities, and quiet village life will not be disappointed. We cannot wait to return.

Our seven-night stay at Casa Lumnezia was nothing short of perfect — we would wholeheartedly recommend it to any family seeking an unforgettable getaway. It's a brand new, wonderfully equipped, beautiful home set in a breathtakingly gorgeous setting; while the apartment's photographs are obviously lovely, they really don't do it justice. You have to see this place to believe it. We went with our two kids, ages 3 and 4.5, and had no shortage of things to do — in fact, there were so many things we DIDN'T get to do that we've already talked about planning another trip back. The kitchen is perfect and great for cooking meals to be eaten on the back deck, and there are just enough toys to keep your little ones entertained but not make a huge mess. It's really a turnkey option for families who don't want another touristy holiday. Tips if you book a stay here: buy groceries before arriving, especially if you're getting in over the weekend; all stores are closed after 6:00PM on Saturday and all day Sunday. (Ilanz has a great Coop grocery store.) You'll most likely want a car, though it's not essential if you're okay being beholden to the bus. There are more hikes than you can possibly do in a week — and it's a little daunting trying to figure out which ones to do — but we had good luck with: (1) trail 903 at the Nordic Walking Park in Ilanz, (2) a hike around Zervreilasee, (3) a day at Caumasee (great swimming and park for kids), and (4) a walk up the mountain to Lumbrein. (Check out www.myswitzerland.com for other hiking options.) There are fabulous and easily accessible playgrounds in Vella, Rufalipark in Obersaxen, and Davos Muntz up the hill.
