Perks for the Parents

A gorgeous 3-story apartment in the heart of Amsterdam with a private garden, dedicated kids rooms and beautiful modern interiors. It sleeps up to 4 adults and 4 children (with a travel crib available on request). Well-set up for a family stay, the apartment has a fully-equipped kitchen and family-sized dining area (plus children’s dinnerware) for easy family meals. Part of a charming historical building, the residence has an outside space and a garden at the back, as well as a private bench on the street side (ideal for your morning coffee in the sun) and balconies on both sides on the upper floors, so you can people-watch to your heart’s content.

Why Kids Love it

The apartment is ideal for children under 8 years old: it’s fully equipped with toys and the family bathroom has a large bathtub for the kids. It’s close to 3 neighborhood playgrounds within a 3-minute walk: the host’s family favorite is just 100m from the house, where there is a great trampoline! The terraced garden also has a swing allowing children to play outside without having to leave the comfort of the home. A travel crib and changing table can be provided on request. Across the city, kids will love days out to Artis city zoo or the Nemo science museum (both around half an hour away by tram).

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. Safety notes: the staircase is protected with a gate at the top of the stairs to keep children safe from the staircase. Another residence occupies the 3rd and 4th floors of the building. There are multiple bike rental options in the area and this is the easiest way to get around the city. Paid on-street parking is available in front of the house or the closest tram stop is Overtoom (3 minutes’ walk). Schiphol airport is less than 20 minutes by taxi or half an hour by public transport.

About the Location

The residence is located in a quiet and child-friendly area in the Oud-West neighborhood, yet only a 5-minute walk from Amsterdam’s city center and buzzing 9 streets area. Multiple supermarkets, delicious restaurants and child-friendly cafés are nearby, as well as plenty of playgrounds accessible in the neighborhood. Vondelpark is just 10 minutes’ walk, where there is an open air theater, swimming pool and sports courts. It’s walking distance from the famous Museum plein (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum etc) as well as the sights of the city center.

Accommodation Details

This apartment is set over the ground, first and second floors of a typical Amsterdam apartment building and has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The ground floor offers a large living room on the street side and spacious open plan kitchen and dining room looking over a quiet and sunny garden at the back. On the middle floor, there is a kid’s bedroom that sleeps 4 (with a set of bunk beds and double wall bed) and another kid’s bedroom that sleeps 2 (with 2 single beds). This floor also has a luxurious bathroom with bathtub, shower and toilet. On the top floor, the adults bedroom has a kingsize bed with a second bathroom and living room. In addition, a travel cot is available upon request

Style Notes

Historic and elegant. Located in a traditional Amsterdam house, this apartment boasts 200m2 of space with high ceilings and large windows, offering lots of light. The ground floor is decorated with deep tones and a modern, sophisticated finish, while the children’s bedrooms are more playful: jungle wallpaper adorns one room and fluorescent colorful accents add fun to the other. We love the ochre bathroom tiling, the super gold splashback in the kitchen and the beautifully ornate original staircase.

We are a French-Dutch couple with 2 daughters : 8 & 6 year old. I work in sustainable packaging and my husband in sustainable construction. After a period of 6 years in London and 4 in Paris, we moved to Amsterdam to make it ourhome sweet home. We love the city : beautiful, connected to nature and perfect for kids too! When travelling we always appreciate spacious, bright places with a good eye for interior design and enough toys to keep the kids happy

Vondelpark, Amsterdam

Inline skating, weeping willows and multiple playgrounds

Ten million visitors a year can’t be wrong: the Vondelpark is Amsterdam’s largest city park, just to the south of Leidseplein and near some of the city’s key museums, and is one of its most popular family attractions. Play in multiple playgrounds sprinkled through its 120 acres, picnic, hire bikes or inline skates, or try outdoor art classes. P.C. Hoofstraat, around the east exit, is one of the city’s most desirable shopping streets, with concert halls, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum a couple of blocks away.

We absolutely loved our stay at Virginie's stylish home. The kids were so delighted with all the toys and children's artwork. It was perfectly set up for my family of five plus my mother traveling with us - the big kids loved the bunk beds and my 6 year old loved her little high bed with fairy lights. Virginie was such a lovely host; she left us homemade jam and cookies that the kids tore into on arrival. She also left us great tips and on where to eat local, and it was perfectly located to walk to tons of great restaurants, the museums, etc. Uber worked great but we ended up walking almost everywhere. All in all, a really fantastic trip that allowed us to experience Amsterdam like locals. We moved to a hotel for a few nights after and we much preferred the home experience.
