Perks for the Parents
Right next to the leafy Vondelpark, this 19th-century townhouse is within easy walking distance of Museumplein. It sleeps up to 6. The location of this residence is hard to beat with the park right behind the house and museums, shops and restaurants just minutes away. A courtyard garden catches the afternoon sun and is great for an al fresco dinner. There's also a small hom gym for parents, with a bench press and cross trainer. Amsterdam is a great city for families to explore, with many pedestrianized streets and bikes to borrow for an easy day of culture.
Why Kids Love it
Kids will love the trampoline in the garden and there is a PlayStation available in the guest room. Vondelpark is at your feet with its many playgrounds and bike paths (cars are not allowed in the park and there are many cycle paths). There are also places to picnic, BBQ, climb trees and make dens - the host has children's scooters for your little ones to borrow to help them explore. Amsterdam is a kid-friendly city with plenty to do – take a children’s tour of the Rijksmuseum, hire a canal boat for a while, or (for the brave) enter the Amsterdam Dungeon.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 5 nights. Maximum number of guests is 6. There are ungated stairs between floors and a balcony and steps to the garden where small children may need extra care. The hosts can arrange babysitting on request (for an additional fee). Bikes are available upon request, but everything is also within walking distance. One dog may be accepted - check with the hosts when booking.
About the Location
This residence is in the well-heeled and very safe Old South (Oud-Zuid) neighborhood of Amsterdam. It’s a leafy, elegant district where you’ll find the beautiful and family-friendly Vondelpark (literally 1 min’s walk behind the house), exclusive boutiques – think Gucci, Hermés, Louis Vuitton, Chanel – and some of world’s best museums. Museumplein – where you’ll find Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum – is a 10-minute walk. Schiphol Airport is 20 minutes away by taxi.
Accommodation Details
This residence has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set over 3 floors. On the ground floor there is an adult bedroom with a kingsize bed, another adult bedrooms with 1 queensize and 1 single bed. This floor also has a playroom and a bathroom with a tub and walk-in shower. This floor also has access to the garden. On the first floor there is a living room, kitchen (with breakfast bar seating 3 and an open plan dining area) and balcony. On the top floor there are 2 kids bedrooms, both with queensize beds, and a bathroom. The hosts also have a pack'n'-play available.
Style Notes
Bright, comfortable, family-friendly. This townhouse was built in 1890 and there are plenty of original features such as the fireplace, the sweeping banisters and stained-glass door. The recently renovated kitchen with a bar is sociable so that you can cook while chatting, and wander out to the balcony to check on the kids bouncing on the trampoline in the garden. We love the relaxed bamboo chairs that flank the lovely fireplace, the warm atmosphere and the superb location.
Vondelpark, Amsterdam
Inline skating, weeping willows and multiple playgrounds
Ten million visitors a year can’t be wrong: the Vondelpark is Amsterdam’s largest city park, just to the south of Leidseplein and near some of the city’s key museums, and is one of its most popular family attractions. Play in multiple playgrounds sprinkled through its 120 acres, picnic, hire bikes or inline skates, or try outdoor art classes. P.C. Hoofstraat, around the east exit, is one of the city’s most desirable shopping streets, with concert halls, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum a couple of blocks away.
