My name is Eline and together with my partner Anton and our girls (Anna (5) and Emma (2)) we live in Amsterdam city center. We spend most of our free time drinking coffees, meetings friends and doing sports. Amsterdam is my favorite place to live, but love to travel and stay in other cities.

Westelijke Eilanden, Amsterdam

Peaceful walks and classic canal houses

Translated as the ‘Western Isles’, this area of central Amsterdam is set over three islands just south of the IJ and adjacent to Haarlemmerbuurt, just a short walk from the canal belt. They make for an interesting place to stay in the city - quiet and child-friendly with a petting zoo, you might also see movies being shot and shipyards and warehouses along the atmospheric waterfront paths.

Our trip was amazing! The hosts sent us great recommendations for things to do and helped us with tips on how to get our family of 5 around. The home was absolutely beautiful and they offered to share food and drink items with us which was so kind. The house is in the most beautiful spot, right on the river, and the neighbourhood felt so calm and kid-friendly: I’m so glad we stayed here instead of in a hotel in the busy city center where I know we wouldn’t of been able to sleep or relax. We can’t wait to return to Amsterdam!
